Thoughts on jesus

Is it normal that I like to debate with people on whether or not Jesus was a witch/wizard/magical person?

Think about it... turning water into wine, walking on water, creating extra food, raising the dead... Sounds a lot like magic to me.

I'm not saying I personally believe he was, I'm just asking if it is really that abnormal of a thought to ask people. So far, everyone I've debated this with seems to disagree with me.

You know there's no evidence of Jesus existing outside of the bible? And the Romans kept excellent records...especially census records.

      Tacitus (Annals 15:44)
      Pliny the Younger

^The above men are Roman historians who mention Jesus dying in Jerusalem.

Whether Jesus was the Son of God is up to you but there is no debating whether or not he existed.

it's normal to debate anything that can't be proven one way or the other. religion is a very interesting topic, and lots of people like to talk about it.

I think its normal, most of all because were just brains and souls. There is no limit to what people can think of, ues the abilities of jesus can seem like magic, but its what God or A God is, power, knowledge, everything.

Jesus was a genius. He took an old, flawed and unpopular religion, then totally reformed it to be something millions could relate to and follow with pride. How did he manage it? Well, he was obviously an excellent public speaker, but his masterstroke was to convince people that he was the son of God! All it took was a few conjuring tricks and tales of miracles spread by his disciples/marketing team, and then faking his own death & resurrection - brilliant.

The problem is that was 2,000 years ago, and now Christianity is as out-of-date as ever, and incompatible with modern science and logical thinking. So, either we should all grow up, pluck out the great, dribble-soaked pacifier that is religion and realise that there is no God, no afterlife and we have to decide for ourselves what is morally right / wrong - or we need a new Jesus to bring things up to date. Any volunteers? (belief in God optional - in fact the role would better fit an intelligent, well-meaning atheist)

  • "Christianity borrows from every other religion"

Wrong. The gods of the ancient world were portrayed as vindictful and very human whereas the God of the Bible was written as a perfect God, void of imperfection. It was unheard of in the ancient world.

Also the ancient religions were polytheistic. Christianity is monotheistic. Beyond Zoroastrianism, Christianity is also unique in this regard.

The Christian Scriptures also have multiple predictions for the future and as far as I've read ALL have come true. This can't be said for ANY religion. None.

In every single way, the Christian religion went against the norm of it's day which is why it was persecuted. The idea that it borrowed from anything is laughable at best.

You think the God of the Bible is not vindictive? You and I must not be reading the same Bible then.

As for the Christians being monotheistic, there is this doctrine of the Trinity that most of them buy into where they have the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. Some complicate the matter by insisting that they are three in one and one in three, which really makes loads of sense. Three won't go into one. And one plus one plus one plus one is NOT one. We are told that it is a divine mystery. I think divine nonsense is more like it. One book claimed it derived from the male sex organs, which are three in one. The female principle has been called Unity and is represented by a straight mark or one. Sometimes you hear about Trinity in Unity. You get the picture, I suppose.

As for the Christian scriptures foretelling the future, maybe with a heavy dose of imagination. Name some predictions of the future that you think the Bible has given!

The power of myth is lost. Anybody who is actually interested in this type of stuff should check out Joseph Campbell.

And Christianity did what every other religion out there does, it borrows from it's neighbors. Many monotheistic religions trace back to Hermes.

  • There is no action that man can commit that is inherently wrong or right.

    Giving death
    Giving life
    Sex
    Love
    Hate
    Anger
    Patience
    Fear
    Courage

^^Every action and mentality is right and good in it's own time and sphere. Therefore there was nothing inherently evil in Jesus' miracles.

"Why is it wrong then for others?"

Different circumstances and for different purposes. Not all that gives death is evil and not all that restores life is just.

I've thought about this many times. I think it's possible. But if that's the case, then the Bible would be wrong about condemning witches...since Jesus was. So most likely he wasn't a witch or a wizard or whatever you want to call it, but it's a good topic to discuss.

Well, the gent I learned Metaphysics from said that Jesus (Yahoshua) was the greatest Metaphysician that ever walked the spiritual path. That is to say, he was actually a spirtualist medium. Some people have confused those with witches and warlocks. I have read a lot of stuff about the "real" Jesus and all the various controversies about him. Many books say that he never actually existed at all, but was rather just another mythical Sun God, like Apollo, or maybe a wine god like Bacchus/Dionysus. One book called FROM CHRISHNA TO CHRIST says that he was actually the same as the Hindoo savior Chrishna. I don't know if we will ever know the whole truth about him or not.

well, he doesn't need you to believe in him, he believes in you, and knows that one day, some of you will see that if there's is no darkness then the light isn't important, if some of you didn't believe then it wouldn't feel so good to be a christian.

AMEN-RAH (Amen was stolen when Christianity moved into Egypt.) Christianity is a composite religion which stole many of it's elements from pagan religions that existed for hundreds or thousands of years before 0AD. You might as well argue about Puff the magic dragon. He's on the same level as Jesus the magic carpenter.

Wrong. No more than 1 religion can exist. So how could at the time, God steal other religious sayings? Chriatians started saying "Amen" when they were created, and at that time they only belived in God, and that was the only religion at the time.

You cant under estimate god or jesus' capabilities, i mean you can, but God is God, and jesus is basically God, which he is all powerful, so that means he could do anything. Which means endless posibilities of interesting, or cool/epic powers.
