No kidding. By the time all the bullshit settles, they would be lucky to have even a couple three million left.
Some lottery winners actually end up having to eventually file bankruptcy.
First, a winner only gets 29% after Uncle Sam rapes the winnings at every turn.
Then the lawsuits from people who think they are entitled to part of the winnings. Of course MORE taxes imposed.
Then the spouse wants a divorce, MORE of the winnings lost.
What started as a dream come true would turn into a G.D. nightmare. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
No such thing as "easy money".
EDIT -
about five years ago, the people my mom used to work with had pooled their money for a lottery. Someone actually won the damn thing. Only a couple million but the one holding the ticket claimed she bought her own ticket on the side. Lawsuits happened. I do not know the outcome. But yeah, the 1.6B winner - you have to wonder just how many people he promised to take care of if he won.
Well... it will be interesting
