is it normal that I am a 52 y/o man, and I suck my thumb. I used to hide it for fear of embarrassment, but this last year I either have become more comfortable, or simply don't care what people think about it. I suck while I drive, occasionally in a store when no one is watching, and often when I sleep.
No, I do not believe that is normal, considering I've never seen an adult suck his thumb.
Hey there ! Honestly these people have no idea what they are talking about. I am 21 and I suck my thumb and I love it ! I will never stop forcefully. This is totally normal and does not harm anyone. I have ADHD and it calms me down before bed or randomly throughout the day. I don't do it in public but my boyfriend family and close friends know and don't have a problem with it either! Suck on ;)
normal for sure, i am 32 and have been thumbsucking all my life, dont do it all day, quite alot of the day and when i sleeping but not often all night, i spend a lot of the day doing it, i feel i want to on bus and out places and sometimes do, i will do it anywhere if i feel, the only place i do have to stop myself is work but have done it without thinking alot of times, suck on my hands and fingers sometimes to, i will never give it up ever makes me feel great
I suck my thumb too and I'm older than you. I absolutely love my habit and, despite the fact that it caused an open bite and "buck teeth", I won't stop. In fact, my teeth makes it more comfortable. Lots of people know and accept it. I'm successful so sucking one's thumb doesn't mean something is necessarily wrong with you.
I'm sorry about all the nasty posts, but you have to find other ways to calm yourself down if that is in fact why you're sucking your thumb. I don't know; you tell me, why are you sucking your thumb?
it helps me feel better, I feel more secure when I can suck my thumb. I know a girl once took a photo of me while I was driving and had my thumb in my mouth, and another time a guy made a rude comment to me about it, I wish that these people knew how much it hurts ! I don't judge people who smoke, or drink, yet I get judged for having my thumb in my mouth. I would rather suck my thumb than commit suicide because of my feelings. They actually have medicine for it now. You put some bad tasting stuff on your thumb and when you go to suck on it it tastes really bad. They used it on a girl in my pre-school years back but they probably still have something like it.

lol, I used to suck my thumb until I was like 11. My mom tortured me about it which wasn't very nice. She's a bitch though, so that's to be expected.
I used to LOVE it when the class misbehaved and the teacher would turn off the lights and make everyone put their heads down on their desks because I could secretly suck my thumb in school!!
I don't remember how or why I quit.
I don't really see anything wrong with it if you like it. If you wanted to quit, I know they make nasty tasting nail polish for nail-biters, or you could use some sort of hot pepper stuff, that would probably discourage doing it.
