To get older and be unable to be independent

Well I am afraid to grow old because sometimes people get health problems and end up in a nursing home, you may lose your freedom and independence, another person taking care of you instead of your own self to me ii will be hard to deal with and i just think about it give me the creeps!

    Completely normal.

I feel the same way too. I am afraid to get older and become another shriveled old living corpse on a changing table waiting for some nurse who is stressed out alltogether because she is trying to feed 3 kids off of her meager paycheck because their father won't pay child support to come change my diaper with her cold, sterilized hands and I will try to communicate with her because I am interested in her life but my brain is too fried to speak coherently and she just nods and goes "uh-huh", then I get flipped back up and she leads me to my bed, puts a tray of food of which the quality is poorer than that of food served in prison, turns on the TV and allows me to vegetate....

But most of the people in my family burn out and die before they ever need be put in a nursing home so I'm hoping I can end my days the same way.

  • I don't think anyone wants that to happen but it does. At least you don't spend a long time (compared to the rest of your life) in that state before you die. On the sunny side, some of the retirement homes are pretty sweet. People plan activities and hobbies for you. Your meals are delivered to you, like you have a personal cook. You are surrounded by people of a similar age which is comforting for the elderly.

Old age is what you make of it, but everyone gets old, sick, and dies. It's a part of life.

No need to worry, aging is forecasted to be cured within the next 100 years.

In the mean time diet is very important, its proven that calorie restriction switches off chemical signals that prematurely age you. So try to keep slim, go a day or two a week only eating 1 moderate sized meal.

This way you will live long enough to see the cure for aging.

I have the same fear. My grandpa (from my mom's side) and grandma (from my dad's side) both developed dementia so I'm afraid I'll get that when I get older. My grandma is doing alright, just a little forgetful, but my grandpa had to go to a nursing home. This gives me the creeps too :I
