On facebook one of my friends posted this status "put atheist in your personal information for maximum edginess"

I have had atheist as my "religious views" since I first got facebook. I have no religion and in addition to that I don't believe god exists either. I was just expressing my honest opinion, I wasn't trying to be edgy. It's not like I go round posting 'there is no god' all over the place it's just in MY personal info.

I'm from the uk where religion or lack there of isn't really a big deal. I probably wouldn't have even bothered making this post if it weren't for the surprising number of likes and comments my friends status got.

So what do you guys think? Does having your "religious views" set to atheist on facebook come across as being needlessly edgy?

    I am an atheist. I refuse to put 'Atheist' in the religion area of my info on Facebook since Atheism clearly is not a religion. I left it blank and assume that when people see that it is blank, they assume I do not belong to a religion, which is good enough for me.
    Calling Atheism a religion is liking calling bald a hair colour. Just saying.

      This objection would make more sense if the field was actually labeled "religion" rather than "religious views". But either way, "none" is a good answer if you want to be explicit without any possible implication that atheism is a religion.

      Incidentally, shouldn't you also stop capitalizing it?
