To need a higher antidepressant dosage if you gain weight

I've been taking Effexor for about 2 years for panic attacks/anxiety. It worked well until recently and I've been feeling certain side effects of skipping a dose even though I haven't. I have gained 30+ lbs in the past two years and I'm thinking I may need s higher dosage. Can anyone suggest?

Do you have a hard time with withdrawal from Effexor?

Nope, but I'm crazy and now I'm just on Cymbalta.

Sounds like something I wouldn't want to waste time even thinking about.

First, ask your doc, there are other reasons Effexor may not be working well for you now. But yes, Effexor's pharmacological profile is patient weight sensitive. But because there are only 3 (I think) dose strengths, it's hard for a doc to prescribe the exact right dose by patient weight (called titration).

  • I went through trails and tribulations with those kinds of meds. A common side effect of those medications is weight gain. Your body will naturally adjust to what you're taking. I found that after a certain time with all the ones I tried they stopped working. Best to ask your doctor on that one.
