Trying to "mark his territory with hickeys"?

A guy I've been fooling around with for a year and a half put about four hickeys across my shoulder blade and neck. He told me to stop seeing other guys and he's starting to fall in love with me. This is his first time saying that and putting hickeys on my neck. Was he trying to "mark his territory"? With that being said I'm not a hickey fan and I think their tacky. What have you heard about hickeys?

    Tell him to maybe have a conversation about being exclusive rather than being like a dog taking a piss on a tree.

    Like a dog that rubs it's bum on the carpet and like a tomcat that 'sprays" his surroundings? No, it's not normal. He sounds a bit controlling. You're not his property. One hickey is alright, especially if it's easy to cover but more than one may bring "Negative" attention to you.

    Gross. Hickeys are so unsightly. They are typically found on losers who want to prove that they make out or something. Ya I have a vacuum too man

    I hate hickeys! They are so trashy and make you look terrible! Putting hickeys all over a girl is not going to "mark her" against other guys either!

    well if he wants to be exclusive and you dont dump him because you will be a bitch if you dont. I like hickeys but maybe hes just afraid your gonna hurt him because he is emotionally involved with you now so its gonna be a whole new game from here on

    I don't like hickeys where they're visable.. I like the feeling of them, but the overall opinion is that I look like a slut. I don't like to advertise my sex life, yah know?

    Me and my boyfriend both love hickies. I know people say their nasty and tacky and all but we love them and we do them in places people can't see usually.
    In our relationship, it's kind of opposite. I leave hickeys on his chest in a trail usualy down his stomach and then you know I get to sucking lol. And he always leaves me huge hickeys underneath my boobs. Seeing them later is such a turn on (:

    Yes its normal. My wife used to come home from dates with hickeys way up on her inner thighs. The guys did this to let me know they had been there.

    Mark his territory? It's not an engagement ring. Some guys might read a hickey as a sign that a girl's easy. So it could actually have the opposite effect. Just saying...
