Ummm..what to do with somebody like this

Ever had a coworker relationship like this?

So we got a new coworker who we’ll call Jeff. Jeff was quiet friendly but reserved. I took a liking to him since shared interest in music.

But it turns out Jeff is a grunge Christian.

He 36....apparently at 24 he had a dream in which he saw Jesus’ face and was able to repent of his sins, which except the dream is normal. But he believes god is granting him miracles.

So at the dinner I invited him, it was poring down rain. He got and said I can make this stop. (He believed he could). He opened his arms and said “lord make this rain stop. Thank you” and it stopped! No, it didn’t.

But he was serious about his miracle, and dreams. Should I get him help?

    • Did you read the part in the comments where he thinks if he continues a life of repentance and bobeying specific commands from God, he will not die and ascend into heaven.

Outside of his fanatical beliefs he’s fairly normal, although he always checking himself and questioning what he does. Sounds like hell to me.

I can't say I have... Sounds like you'd get a lot of fun stories to tell from having such a coworker.

Your friend needs some friends and I think need to pray and fast for a deeper connection to God to get better insight on his gift but that’s just my 2 sense

            • You didn’t entirely get it, lol

In the Bible Jesus often refers to his followers as “my child.”

So I made it seem like he was talking back to your comment, hehe

    He sounds quite delusional.

    • How do people become this way? How can somebody think they can pray the rain away or walk on water? I’m curious about the psychology behind this.

Oh, and he’s an avid believer in open confession. Apparently, from another source, he called to confess he was thinking about his wife! Talk about opening a can of worms.

        What is open confession?

        • I like he believes if he experiences spiritual perfection from repentance on this life he may be translated into heaven like Elijah the Jewish king.

        • That one should confess faults against “brothers” or personal sins, like masterbsting, publicly.

Oh Hell no! I like talking to God with a priest there to help out, and that's pretty much it. No, I think confession should be a very private thing. I don't even like it if my mom asks me how confession went for the most part.

I wouldn't confess to someone unless I threw a basketball in the house, and accidentally broke a vase, or something like that.

My mom always wanted me to talk about confession with her, which has of course always creeped me out. I told my priest about it, and he told me confession is private, and she shouldn't be asking. She still asks of course, and I hate it. I know people who aren't Catholic, and some who aren't even Christians who think that it's inappropriate of her. She also used to read my diary, and listen into my phone calls. I still have a hard time trying to keep a journal to this day!

I would want to say something like, "I confess to my brothers, and sisters of the congregation that I think you're all a bunch of hooples, and screaming assholes"! Is this dude a fundamentalist?

Eww, this shit makes my skin crawl. 😱

            • I’m not religious, but I agree open confession is creepy, and rubs people the wrong way.

I don’t think there’s any reasoning with him, nor do I want to be the one to help him (if he can change, I doubt it though.) Just hopefully is dosen't loose some teeth in the process.

But seriously, can you imagine getting a call like this: “hey Fred, how are you? So uh, I just thought about being with your wife, and I just want to say sorry. Please forgive me!”

              😂🤯
