Upper body imbalances genetic and training type?

So is it common for trainees to suffer from this condition, where either: the trunk's overall width is either normal to large that makes the arms look proportionally small almost stick like, or the other way around where the arms are so large that their size make the trunk look small. I suffer from the large trunk to skinny arm syndrome. Any thoughts on how to fix this. For example: should I use lifting variations that emphasize the arm muscles while still getting a slight activation of the chest and back. This would tax the arms while still using the other large muscle. This way it would balance the upper body out without neglecting the problem area and so it would not create any imbalances. So can anyone tell me which way to go and name any exercise variations( i will look them up so don't worry on the description)
