Weirdo calling me, telemarketing or prank caller ?

On Friday some number called me (visible number but unlisted as I cant find whom it belongs to online) and I only picked up because I was expecting a call thinking it might be that one and this guy is on the other end just saying "hi it's *name*" and i'm like "okay and you are?" and then he claimed to work with online surveys or some crap like that but I was very suspicious because he sounded slow as fuck plus telemarketers DON'T say "hi it's *name*" they introduce themselves by telling you where they're calling from and why. Always. This sounded like he expected me to know him personally. I just hung up.
Then today that very number called me. I didn't answer. A few hours later it calls me FIVE times in a row. FIVE. Even though I just decline it! Eventually I do pick up and say "hELLo?!" and silence. No response. So I repeat "helloo?" and still, silence. So creepy! Could this really be a telemarketer? :s Plus the type of number he's calling from is a personal number. He hasn't (yet) called again since I picked up which is strange too! Should I call him without my number showing and see how he picks up???

    I don't know where you live and I have no idea if it's possible everywhere, but in the UK, it's possible for telemarketers and scammers to spoof the originating number. If this works where you live and you called the (supposedly) originating number, you might end up talking to someone completely unconnected to your mystery caller, or - as happened with you - you could find that the number isn't even in use.

    As for the silent calls, we get those too. Scammers and telephone sales companies have auto-diallers that work through a sequence of numbers. If the number is busy or not connected, the system hangs up and the next number is dialled. The system is designed to ensure that nobody working the phones is idle for long, so the algorithm aims to dial enough calls to keep the cubicle-drones slaving away, and it tries to route an answered call to a drone as soon as the target picks up. Sometimes, that doesn't work: a call is answered but there's nobody available to deal with the target, so you just hear line noise when you answer.

    Maybe just a newbie scammer who didn’t figure out how to run the phones yet. A lot of them use automated soundboards of real people recordings to fool ye. I kept getting one of this floozy sounding woman giggling about home insurance or whatever. I would just block and move on, sounds like some dork either way

    It's normal. Once I got a phone call and someone called me a dickhead.

    Random number.
    Across the country.
    Completely Crazy.

    I was really questioning myself like "what did I do to a person to have this done?"

    but then I realized it was probably a prank anyone can do this to any phone number. Kids get a hold of phones and they don't have any self control.

    In the end it's a very irrational fear.

    What this guy is doing to you isn't ok, if it were me I'd have an app that blocks unwanted calls.
