At least the meds (metformin)are cheap. I get mine for free. The pharmacy that i get them (Meijer)charges nothing, even with no insurance.
You missed out an increased risk of Alzheimer's. That's loads of fun too.
There have been some interesting studies recently on the benefits of drastically limited calorie intake for those with diabetes. The diet isn't any fun, but the long-term effects of even well-controlled diabetes can be a hell of a lot worse.

Of course, everyone wants to be able to just take a pill to make it all better, and pharmaceutical companies aren't going to be making a fortune off selling reduced calorie diet plans, so it will be interesting to see if further studies are carried out.
Lots of bad stuff, but the most frustrating studies I’ve been involved in have been diabetic foot ulcers and diabetic neuropathy. Both frustrating as hell to have and to treat.
My first ex-husband's mother had to have her left leg amputated due to diabetes. A couple of months later she ended up falling into a coma, and died a week later on Mother's Day. It was gruesome, and tragic.
