Birds (I have a lovebird) are by far the best in my opinion. What else can sit on your shoulder while you walk out to your car/mailbox/grocery store? Most places don't have a problem with my bird coming in the store even though they have a "no pets allowed" sticker in the windows. They're just so cool!

Aside from squirrels and monkeys, my family and friends have had every single one of those listed and more besides. Each of them would give a different answer. And I guess that's the point. There's no one pet that's ideal for everyone. We appreciate different things, so we all have different pets. I like them all but it's no secret that I am always going to favour dogs. They're funny, loyal, honest, and they mesh with humans in a way that no other species seems to. To me, dogs are family.

Some people like dogs. Is that really such a problem to you? Why do you want to control the pet choices of people you don't even know?

Leave the animals to live in the wilderness will you?! stop bringing them into your house! if you are so lonely go talk to some humans.

Amen to that. If we'd have had the wisdom to see this and the maturity not to selfishly drag them out of their homes and force them into slavery to "serve" our (supposed!) "needs," they would be far better off, and we'd be a far better species.

Ferrets are fun and playful they can also cuddle, it's like a cat, a dog, and a weasel got put into a blender and something amazing came out. A ferret.

  • What is your lifestyle? Are you busy? Do you mind cleaning after them? It's all about the person adopting the animal.

I've had a bunny and two cats. The cats were just insane to take care of because they were really nosey and got into everything. The bunny was cute and quiet but also a wimp. I liked the bunny a bit better but not by much.

Rats are awesome. If you want a dog but can't get one then get rats. They're like miniature dogs.

I've had 11 of the animals listed, and dogs really are the best. A lot of those animals can be somewhat friendly if socialized with humans early, but none of them really connect with humans the way dogs do. They really do see you as part of the pack, and fortunately it's typical that the human automatically becomes pack leader, which makes things easy.

Different pets offer different things for different people.

I have two cats but one is more attached to me then the other. Every day I get home from work he comes and sits on me for at least 10 minutes. All the stress of the day just melts away. If I don't let him sit on me he follows me around until I sit. He has also been known to pee on my husbands things if I don't give him enough attention.

My colleague has a cat who only tolerates him and not his wife. Said cat also does a bit of peeing to prove the point. I absolutely love cats but don't understand them particularly. Do you think cats do this out of jealousy? I'm really curious.

I think it's territorial. Kitty likes my husband but loves me. We joke about him being a scorned lover in a past life. He sometimes does this while we're having sex. My husband will grab his pants off the floor to find them covered in pee. But we still love the stupid cat.

That reminds me of the cat owned by someone I went out with a few years ago. We had to lock her out of the bedroom because she would perch herself on the corner of the bed and silently judge us. When we'd let her in, she'd immediately start licking and grooming my ex's hair, as if she was trying to reclaim her. We had the same joke as you. We thought she was a former lesbian whose feckless partner kept sleeping with men right under her nose.
