What are some common words/phrases you irrationally hate?

Basically, what are words/phrases that just don't sit well with you?

I really hate when people say, "This is a really nice shoe" or "this is a really nice pant" because it sounds so extremely pretentious. To me, it's more normal to say "These are nice shoes" or "These are nice pants". I cringe when people say it singularly.

Also, extra-casual nicknames like "Babe" and "buddy" are so extremely overused here in the US.

Like someone speaking their girlfriend - "Babe, come here and look at this" I would hate to be called 'babe', and not because of some feminist reason, but because it's just a careless way of addressing someone. It's almost disrespectful imo to not call someone by their name, unless they're okay with it. I feel like it's as disrespectful as "hey you!"

Or like when a guy talks to their kid or their pet "Hey buddy, what are you doing?" Again...it's so cringy. Call them by their name. There's a guy on youtube who does videos about animals at his zoo or something, and in every single video he's calling them, "Heyyy buddyyyy" it's so f-ing annoying.

These are just pet peeves, and I know it's irrational. But do you have any common words/phrases that simply rub you the wrong way?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

I hate when other women call their vaginas their pussies. It feels awkward outside of the bedroom imo. Like to casually say "my pussy hurts" or something in a conversation is so awkward. Just say your vagina hurts why you gotta say pussy. Or when women say "my pussy is so tight" in public, so fucking weird.

I also hate when older men say " if I was your age you'd be in trouble" as a way to hit on you by saying they're not currently hitting on you, but that they were irresistible when they were my age.

When people say "not bad". What is that supposed to mean? If something's good, just say it's good. You're saying it's not bad,but you're not saying it's good, either. Which is it?

I hate the word white nationalist. It was until recently we called people white supremacists instead. Its a confusing term because if you are white and you are a nationalist you are technically a white nationalist according to language. White being the adjective and nationalist being the noun.

Nationalist is actually a positive thing its one that loves their country. Or a patriot. So white nationalist is in reality a white person whos a patriot. But they take a positive word and make it into something negative.

    • Interesting thoughts. This reminds me that 'fake news' is also a term I've come to hate because the instant you say it, you're labeled to having specific political views.

But fake news is actual fake, inaccurate reporting, and it happens all the time. It's been happening for over a hundred years. The term got misused so much that the public believe something totally inaccurate.

Nothing really comes to mind (though I'm sure there's something) except for "shhhh". That noise makes my skin crawl in the worst way. Absolutely every bit as bad as nails on a chalkboard. I've always had an irrational hatred of that noise that most people find strange, lol.

"Outdated", "primitive", "enlightened", "identifies as", "those assigned ___ at birth", "I am the customer", "you're black"

Most sentences written in casual texting conversation, because I have no idea wtf they're talking about.
