What do people do at these “state fairs”?

So, I from Minnesota. And this week we have a Minnesota state fair going on?? What do people do there?? Just eat food?? What’s the purpose of going to the Fair??

      Just as long as he doesn't peel his banana, he'll be alright.

      Did you know that the NY State fair requires you to wear a shirt & shoes. The rules don't mention anything about pants. Weeeee, swing it free!

    State fairs started in the 19th century to promote state agriculture by showing off livestock and farm products. After America became a more industrialized society states just continued state fairs, but added other things like carnival rides, games, and concerts. The first one was the New York state fair that started in 1849 has happened annually every year since them. It's just tradition at this point.
