What do you consider as being "mature"?

I've always been told I'm too mature for my age. Honestly I never understood why people would tell me that. I'm 19 and they still tell me. Just because I never liked partying or getting into trouble with alcohol/grugs..and also because I'm nice to people. Okay so I'm not some wild child, but I don't understand how that makes me mature. I'm still clueless on somethings and honestly don't have much experience in anything just yet so I wouldn't know how to react to some things.. For example, I've never had a boyfriend (not the big picture of the story lol)so I wouldn't know how to react if he ever broke my heart, bought me something too expensive, or even how to be a girlfriend in general. I always believed to be "mature" means to be experienced enough to know how to act on any situation. Am I wrong? What do you think?

I think you're mature in the sense that you know you don't know everything and you don't act like you do.

The definition of maturity is someone who is fully grown. So I think that's mostly age and experience, along with choosing the option which is the most beneficial, not only to yourself but to others. I think maturity is subjective, what's mature to some will be immature to others:) It doesn't really matter either way, you sound like a good person:D

This is an interesting question. Everyone and I mean everyone who ever told me to grow up were themselves, THE most immature people I'd ever met. It went beyond hypocrisy into delusion the way they could, with a straight face, make this comment to me. Maturity is the ability to mind one's own business and make sure to check oneself before making a hypocritical/delusional comment about someone else.

I have been told many times that I am very wise from a psychologist. That doesn't mean anything though. If your happy with who you are, then don't worry about it.

I think maturity is being able to recognize that things are never black and white, everything is just a varying shade of grey. Also, it is the ability to control one's emotions and overcome self-pity & selfishness.

I don't agree with that. Some things are purely black and white, and having an inability to recognize that isn't good. I can provide some examples of purely black and white situations if you'd like.

I think you're mature compared to others your age about drugs and alcohol. Lots of people haven't been in a relationship. Don't worry. You seem like a good kid.

In my opinion, there is no such thing as "too mature".

Maturity is how you feel about yourself; nobody else knows you inside-out, so only you can work it out.

Personally, I think I am very mature in some areas and very immature in others. I don't know where that leaves me. Mature is a strange word, as it is a summation of so many things that are unrelated and maybe even mutually exclusive; emotional maturity, academic maturity, physical maturity and more. Maturity as a combination is hardly worth measuring because everyone succeeds at different things; measure the different types of maturity INDIVIDUALLY to define yourself.

    My thoughts.

Yeah, what would "too mature" even mean?

I think there's a difference in being mature and not having an interest in doing things that other people do at a certain age.
