What do you do when you see a homeless person?

Give them money. Lots of it. 9
Buy them a sandwich- better food than drug money. 16
Kick them/take their money. 13
Ignore them- they'd probably use the money on drugs, anyway. 51

Depends on the person, usually Id sooner buy them food than give them money.

While its true some people are lazy and dont want to work, many homeless people truly suffer. A lot of them are insane or disabled, unable to work but with no family and the state unable to house and care for them.

There have been so many foreclosures in America recently, families are getting tossed out into the street every day thanks to the greed of the banks. Poverty really is a double edged sword, the system is prejudiced against the less well off and makes it difficult for a child who was raised in such a situation to get out.

Give a child a fucked up home life, poor education in a run down neighborhood, low income (so theyll probably have to work and maybe even quit school to support their family), and surround them with all sorts of bad influences and then complain about the outcome? Welcome to America.

If I have something to give I give it whether it be some spare change or some food. I think karma will return the favor later.

The truth is that last time I saw a homeless person it was a man, late at night, sleeping under a dark blanket with his dog next to him. I was driving back home and I was in a very meowy-mood, had been crying and all, and my instinct was to go home, get my comforter, join the both of them and spoon and cuddle. THAT'S how needy & lonely I was. :( IIN?

Give a man fire and he's warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life.

        • I haven't read the book, I have read a scene from it that isn't in the film that makes me feel like I'm missing out on the full American Psycho story, but the film is amazing. I still would guess the book is better, and I hope I get round to reading it some time. Especially since I read the bit that wasn't in the film, the "Killing Bethany" part, it just brings more of a "Psycho" feel to the story.

I have to agree, one of the bets, if not the best films out there. Christian Bale done a pretty good job acting in it, would you agree?

Bale was perfect as bateman, the book could never be made into a film fully because of the content, many graphic descriptions of rape, necrophilia and cannibalism to name a few. But the real brilliance of the book comes from it's ability to make you laugh out loud even during really disturbing moments like he walks around his apartment with a girls decapitated head on the end of his erection for 30 mins until it 'gets boring'. In regards to the book it is my favourite book ever, i used to get to the last page and then go straight back to the first again.

            • Dark humour? Yeah, I seen a bit of that in the film. The more I hear about the book, the more I want to give reading it a chance.

I have been homeless one year and this has been the hardest most depressing time of my entire life. I was a very sucessiful 22 year old, trying to become a swim school instructor. Due to a falling out with family and financial stress i was thrown out of my home. I bounce from place to place, sometimes sleeping in 24 hour stores like safeway. I panhandle to make ends meet and keep my cellphone on so i can find work. I mostly depend on government assistance to feed me and i use the other money i earn to stay warm and keep clean. Im constantly going through every emotion and trying to keep myself motiviated is a daily struggle. But I just keep my self in check and live day by day. I feel for other homeless people because i know being cold, hungry and worried everyday is not a fun thing. I'm 22 and i already have grey hair because i stress so much..Though i have confidince that i will get through this. You shouldnt judge a homeless person until you've known eveything the've lost and been through.

What would you say to a person like me? I was more successful and was making more money then anybody I know. At age 22 I was running my own shop taking home about a grand a week. That's after tax, after insurance and payroll deduction on 2 cars a motor cycle. So yeah. I was doing Very well for myself Then I developed a health problem that put me in bed for over a year. It's now been five years and I can barley walk a block before I collapse. Doctors still don't know what's wrong. I can't get disability because I have no official diagnosis and even if I could get disability it doesn't pay enough to live off of. I have food stamps now thank god for that. But nothing else. In 6 months I will be out of money and on the street. I was able to live for 5 years paying rent and all my bills without an income. Could you do that? So when my money runs out you going to call me a lazy deadbeat bum? Are you aware that 82% of all homeless people in the USA are homeless for reasons like mine? Health issues are the number one reason for homelessness in this country. Think about that the next time you want to talk shit. Most are homeless because society shat on them in a time of need. People like you.

I live in the 'burbs and there aren't really any streets that are not residential, thus there are no homeless people
