What do you do when your dog rubs his butt against the carpet?

I think it would be better for the both of us, if you just don't ask why at all...

Say good boy/girl 9
Do nothing. 26
Say bad boy/girl 7
Tell him/her NO 21
Take him/her to the vet cause he/she might have worms. 38
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Could just be is glands or even a habit; sometimes it's just a habit.

I remember calling the vet to ask about how to clean the glands. She went on to say, "you insert an index into the anus of the dog and then you feel around for the gland with your thumb. Once you feel the gland you squeeze it gently but firmly. YOU CAN WEAR A GLOVE IF YOU WANT."

Now, why would anybody waste a glove on THAT, lol

ROTFLMAO, this is what people go to school for? To shove their fingers up a dog's ass? OMFG

    My dog does that.
I talked to my vet about it and he says its not worms that causing it.
Its some kind of sac that has grown near the rear.
This is going to sound grows but they have to open/squeeze it and get the substance out.
He even pointed out a tiny stain that landed on the wall from a previous dog.
WTF?! *i thought to myself. O.O
    is that even sanitary.

    Anyways,
go to the vet to get a conclusion.
&get what ever it is removed.

Yes it is an anal scent gland that dogs have from their genetic progenitors. This gland was a way to scent mark territories and boundaries and evolution hasn't taken it away. If you go to a proper groomer, this gland gets squeezed. The groomers call it "Expressing the gland." When I worked at Petsmart I trained in all the various areas in the store. That was something I learned in the training manuals. It will squirt, it is why having a paper towel handy is a good idea.

You can all ignore your dog rubbing its arse on the carpet..but just wait until the worm larva start to hatch and you have all the little wrigglers in your carpet and in your kids mouths and toys and maybe soon you will also be needing to rub your itchy arses on the carpet!!! Get the dog wormed or cleaned. Steam clean your carpets.

Tell the dog "no" but also try and investigate the reason why. It could be worms, it could be the anal gland needing to be relieved (Dogs have an anal gland that has to be squeezed. It usually gets done when they are groomed.) It could also be something bizarre like the dog getting into and eating something that is abrasive and it has caused his butt to itch.
I've seen my parents' dog do this when he got into and ate some next day cold charcoal with meat-drippings on it. (He knocks over the barbecue pit to get them.)

Whatever the reason, you don't want the dog to scoot their butt on the carpet.

Take it out behind the woodshed and shoot it. Make a traditional Alaskan wolf-head-hat out of it's skull and hide. Proceed to enjoy hat.

No prob! And apparently, people don't know what a joke is. I thought it was a pretty obvious joke, but seeing that I got negative votes I guess some people actually thought I was serious?

  • It has worms or problems with it's anal glands; either way, it should be taken to a vet.

    I wipe his ass.

He gets crap on all that fur by his tailhole, and that's what causes it.

my dog has to get her gland squeezed every few months or so because her butt drives her insane. its always been like that ever since she was a puppy.

Your dog shouldn't be "rubbing his butt on the carpet" because the filthy POS shouldn't be in the house in the first place! Put the ass-rubbing freak outdoors where dogs belong!
