It was easier to approach girls. From my teens onwards it became impossible.

My first and only real friend. I was quite close to him, but we got separated around the age of 15. I don't think we have much in common anymore, so it could be quite hard to come up with a conversation.

    • Yeah you never have friends like the friends you have as a kid

my grandparents, and when my cousins would come visit, and that we could amuse ourselves with the weirdest things but we didn't think they were weird, just funny. everything was "normal" at that age. now it is always somewhat awkward for me when i go to visit any of my family, even though they are, or used to be, like my best friends...

My twin. She died when I was seven.

Thank you. I've been told to look on the bright side and that I'm now an ultra-rare individual, what my dad calls "an only twin". It does give me a different perspective on things but I'd throw that away in a heartbeat to be complete again.

I'm sure you're dad is just trying to help mend the wound.

I may have been picked on a lot, but I miss the carefree of it all. How the worst thing I could do was spill milk on the floor. I didn't have to think of the future and everything outside would always be a new adventure.

Honestly, I don't miss a thing. I'm happier at this age than I have been at any other I can remember in every way I can think of. Everything is so much less mysterious than it was (which is in every way an improvement). I don't miss any friends; if I cut them out I cut them out for a reason and I wouldn't take it back, and if I didn't cut them out I still have them. I don't miss lack of responsibility because without responsibility I faced a complete motivational deficit. I don't miss the high energy, because I feel like I still have it. Maybe this is all because I'm not quite in full adulthood, though, so I still have the best of both.

EDIT: Changed my mind. I miss heads down, thumbs up. That was the best game I've ever played. That's it though. Just heads down, thumbs up. I think that's a pretty good result, only missing one thing.

EDIT: Okay, two things; I just realised how much I miss Malcolm in the Middle. I loved that programme :( I promise that's all though :P

Interesting topic and I love the poll options, so creative. I don't really know how to say it but...the feeling you get when you realize that the world around you hasn't really changed since you were a kid, it's just you that has changed. When you're a child you really take a lot more for granted and only start appreciating things more when you get older. So kind of nostalgia tinged with regret. On the one hand I'm happy thinking back to those days but I'm also sad because I was too innocent and and immature and often didn't realize the mistakes I was making back then.

Mostly childhood was unhappy, but I do remember vacations with my cousins and aunt and uncle when I was 4 that was my best vacation ever. We were staying in cottages on a lake and we played in the water and everybody got along. I remember visiting my grandmother at her house before she broke her hip and came to live with us. Oddly it was her house and yard I enjoyed immensely rather than my somewhat aloof grandmother. After the age of 4, people seemed to get very mean and controlling and against me and my twin sister. As if it was sink or swim, losers.

    • Thank you for sharing and finding a rose amongst all those thorns. (Or pricks, by the sound of things.)
I hope your adult life is happier. :)

What I miss the most is being problem free. I didn't care about anything. I only cared about playing.

Not really sure how to put it..But the colors just seemed so much more brighter, the food tasted better, and even while I might not know the lyrics to a song, I sang along with my own words without having a panic attack on how I'll mess up. Thats what I miss the most.

    • I agree with all of that except the food part, I was a fussy eater as a kid, took me awhile to appreciate vegetables!

My goofy, awesome, white, terrier-mix dog, Diamond is probably my best memory. I wish we could have more time together! She wasn't the most trainable dog in the world but she was so kind and protective of all the other smaller and weaker animals in the family. She loved to dig in the dirt and roll in the mud but was at her best when she protected our rabbits by killing snakes and opossums.

Thanks, I forgot to mention she was always there for me when I would get sad as a kid. She wasn't allowed in the house a lot but we would get home from school if my mom was out my sister and I would let her and my sister's Cockapoo, Wendy, in the house. Party time!

Hard to choose between endless energy and innocence. Chose endless energy, though. Whilst it would be nice not to know about all the horrible stuff that happens in the world, knowing about it puts you in a better position to do your bit to help? Another branch off that loss of innocence is obviously about the complexity of adult emotions, but that's just life! Adults are responsible for their own emotions etc. Then I guess there's sexual innocence/loss of it as well. For me the other two things are more prominent, though.

I also miss how all the old 90s cartoons or Tv shows used to come on when I was a kid. But from the list, besides missing the innocence, I also miss the lack of responsibility and the sense of awe and wonder for simple things.
