What do you think about e-readers?

So for this passed Christmas of 2011, I received a nook from my mother. As a fan of reading, I had been wanting one for some time and was pleased with such a generous gift.

Now here comes the controversy. I know that a lot of people say that nooks and kindles and other e-readers stink because it takes the fun out of reading an actual, physical book.

The way I see it is if nooks or kindles or other e-readers are getting people to read-- kids especially-- then I don't really see the problem. My question to you is to whether or not you are for e-readers or against them.

I love them. 13
I hate them. 5
I don't really care. 22
What's an e-reader? 3
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Paper books and e-readers each have pros and cons.

I personally prefer real paper books for various reasons. I don't care if others use e-readers, to each his own.

What the fuck is that supposed to mean?
There are some good things about such a device and other bad ones.
Such as the fact you cannot quite read shit if you run out of batteries or the device stops working correctly for whatever reason while the old fashioned paper book is always there available and the only ways to fuck it up are about phisicay accessing to it. Touching it with your hands. Some Jerk changed words in a book I was reading with my tablet and this fucking jerk kind of could prevent me from reading it correctly.. So it kind of left me traumatized about these devices.
Now I am officially an anarcho-primitivist.

I find reading much more enjoyable when I'm holding an actual book in my hands.

I like both paper and e-books.

Paper books are nice because they can be used no matter what. you don't need electricity. even if the power's out you can still read by a candle.

    ebooks are also good because...
    - I use to be in the Navy. Look up "coffin locker". Then you'll see why a navy girl would like to have e-books while on deployment.

    - also some of the authors i like are *cheaper* on ebook. Why spend $7.99+ on say a John Ringo book when I can download it from the publisher for $6? (assuming it's not free... cos the Baen publishing company has free books too)

I have no problem with an E-Reader (if I could afford one). The only thing is, I never remember to charge my electronics (save for my cell-phone) so it would die and I would be out of luck. I'll stick to paper books until I am able to remember to keep my chargers on me.

I really like the idea of e-readers, but I'm still not really used to my kindle e.g. I haven't worked out how to display which page number I'm on (as opposed to percentage of volume read) which would be nice to see. The inbuilt dictionary is one of the best features for me without a doubt. Being able to look up words and facts instantly is a huge advantage.

I like the novelty of having a bookshelf full of books that I love to read, though, i have nothing against e-readers. You raise a good point that it gets the younger youth more into reading.

I'm on my kindle fire right now. I still prefer actual books to e-readers but whatever.

I am for e-readers and would like to get one someday. Especially to catch up on all of the free classics that are in the public domain.

Hmm I am not reading much and when I do it only with my phone or iPod touch... I don't like books in general and eBooks are much easier and more comfortable to read!

Hate them, but I can't deny that they are more convenient and the thing of the future.

I just have trouble getting past not flipping pages the old fashioned way.
