I have 00g lobes.
There was no pain involved during the stretching period for me.
I have dozens of pairs of intricate, delicate jewelry made from things like; silver, glass, horn, bone, and wood. They are so beautiful and I think my collection is worth about $1500.
I love them on me, and I don't care if other people (male or female) like them or not. I don't have any other piercings - just my lobes.
I'm a female and i wear a 1/2" gauge i find some guys staring at them, but it never really stopped me from dating anyone, so if some guys find it gross, i really couldn't care less ... and i love them !! it took me about 8 months to get to this size and it wasn't painful at all... and now, after 4 years i still find them lovely on me :)
so screw what others think !
ive stretched my ears several times since the age of about 15. the largest ive been is 3/4. i took them out for awhile just to give my lobes a break but im back to 5/8ths now at the age of 20. i love them you can dress so simple but still look badass. to answer jelly1 how many people without plugs do you see at mcdonalds....most. people with plugs know the concequences. i look at it as a hurdle. im am aws certified welder so i can go into an interview with a mohawk plugs and a thong on and still start the next day with 25 an hour. normal life still applies when having plugs anyone can succeed with the right attitude.
I think stretched ears are beautiful and I respect anyone who can go through the long, laborious process of stretching. Mine are only at a 14g right now...stretching from a 20g piercing I got when I was 3...but I'm okay with that. I'd rather take it slow and healthy. Also, I've never been in pain while stretching. Even if I was, society's preoccupation with living a painless existence is kind of absurd, IMHO.
If I had them I would annoy people further by sticking my pinky finger through them ;D Maybe I might go as far as sticking a pencil through...
Oh the possibilities!
I think it can be cute on the right girl, but when its bigger than 1/2 inch i think its a bit nasty. the smell makes me sick too.
For me, stretched ears were a spiritual experience--I don't care what others think of them. When done right, stretching any piercing is painless.
I personally find people attractive who think for themselves. If someone got their ears stretched just for a trend, then it's lame. But if it was part of their personal aesthetic or something more, then that's great.
But I guess I just love any kind of body mod.
I think they're attractive when they're like a 5. I don't really like when they're too big, but if someone wants to do that its cool. It doesn't hurt if you take your time btw.
yeah, it's pretty gross. after it goes out of style you're going need some surgery procedure to fix it... dumb kinds nowadays
I'd question why fashion should involve pain. If the new fashion was sixteen poison darts thrust into our chest, would we all do it? No, of course not, but some people would and pronounce themselves somehow the most fashionable. Stop listening to these fuckwits. They've just put sixteen poison darts in their chest! Seriously! Don't take orders from cretins!
Too big then it's just...weird. I don't hate people with stretched ears, but how do they get hired?
i actually know a chick and a dude who got their earlobes snapped because of their HUGE earlobes its kinda funny all my friends have huge holes in their ears now hehe glad i never got on the earlobe wagon haha
When people stretch thier ears for the wrong reason it shows. The town I live in their is no originally whatsoever, it's truly sad. I have my ears streched too, for me it honestly a spiritual feeling, I love it. In the 5th grade I watch a documentary on a tribe, most of them had streched ears, I got inspired by them seeing how strong (otherworldly) they are it affected me. To me it was a symbol. I wanted them since that day, being only in 5th grade I couldn't . I waited till I was 18 to start, but I used it to look back at all the things that have been hard in my life, kinda like to réclame my pain. I'm now at an inch. I don't plan on going bigger but who knows.
C'mon, it's fucking sweet! Although i do have visual "gauge restrictions", meaning that if it's larger than 1" it's a little bit too much for me.
I gotta 1/2", my ex had the same gauge.. 9/16" and 5/8" look cool too.
I find them pretty attractive on either gender. I realize people complain about the smell but if you're consistently washing them each time you shower at night you shouldn't have that problem. Getting natural plugs, wood or stone, help minimize the smell as well. I'm 21 and I've been at 3/4' since I was a freshman in high school. To answer jelly1's question; It's obvious that it all depends on what field of work people wish to get in to. I've been a Cosmetic's Manager at Saks fifth Avenue for almost 2 years. They've never had an issue with my ears even when I was a sales associate. There are ways to look professional. If your ears aren't enormous there are simple solutions to disguise them and make it look like you're wearing just over-sized earrings (for the girls anyway's). Just look online...
Same thing I think about guys with stretched ears...
"I wonder how that's going to affect your job prospects, but hey ... if that's what you want, whatever"
Nothing bad, really.. I worked as a regional manager with my gauges, my buddy climbed way higher. It's about your education and/or your talents. I wish the rest of the world would stop judging people by the looks.
Thing is, it's par for the course in some higher end jobs.
http://www.resumark.com/blog/tatiana/how-tattoos-and-body-piercing-affect-your-career/
found a good article that sums it up. There's an increasing number of jobs where it's not as much of a factor, however not everyone feels they should be visible on the job.
Your employer can dictate that the piercings & tats be covered up while at work, for example. Or simply refuse to hire you since "people with body are" don't fall under a protected class.
I realize that some place will discriminate, and I've been fighting these stereotypes for many years already. The thing is, luckily, that alternative looks are gaining more and more acceptance and the way I see it, in 10-20 years from now it'll be even less of an issue.
However, I absolutely don't agree with changing or modifying your personal preferences and style for a job. I do agree with a dress code and uniforms, but no employer has a right to dismiss a potential worker because of neck/skull/hand tattoos or stretched ears.
Actually they have every right.
1) It's not a protected class as I stated above
2) Many of those neck/skull/hand tats are actually recycled gang symbols so technically they could be exercising a "no hate" policy.
Yeah really. I knew a guy who had an interesting spiderweb tat on his elbow. He probably thought it was just a cool image. When in fact it stemmed from prison culture where the tat represented your "mark" for killing a minority. And that each web ring represented how many you killed.
So any business can request that tats are covered up. Besides, as the skull-face kid has already proven, you CAN cover up extensive tats with makeup.

So there's no reason why it can't be covered for work if the tat is considered to be unprofessional. Even if it's on your face.
1.it's a personal point of view, I'm not saying that I'll take the employer to court for that, since it's not a protected class, you're right. yet, in my opinion it shouldn't happen at all.
2.Yes, the symbolism used to be represent a criminal hierarchy and give a full report of your "achievements". This created this nagative opinion about bodyart. it is not so nowdays, yes, some kids still get tats in prisons, but it's a dying breed. Most of the "old school" tattooing is just art, nothing else. "No hate" applies ONLY when you have symbols on you that represent/used to represent hate crimes or racist/nationalist gangs.
Biker gang tattooes, for example are absolutely legal.
By the way, spiderwebs on elbows mean something else in every country i've been to. So I wouldn't really draw my conclusions on one place.. kinda close minded.
zombie boy make up was awesome, I know this video (appreciate the links, but i know what you're talking about, lol), however it was a very expensive photoshoot. Why should I spend my time on that to confirm to some obsolete and outdated social norm. it's 21st cetury, about time to review our policies on this issue as well.
My ears are tiny as fuck this one boy I liked in 6th grade called me an elf oh well at least it got me the attention ;)
Tattoos and piercings on a woman clicks with me, but not ear stretchers. If a woman has to get anything done with her ears, she should get 'em pierced, 'cause that way, an entire universe opens up as to what sort of earrings can be worn to round-out one's look.
That is horrific, you'd have to be a hypocrite to want stretched ears.
i am ok with piercing i have my nose pierced and some on my ears but stretched ears that just gross and it smells really bad too.
