What do you think of near death experiences?

I've been watching some things on Near Death Experiences in which people will experience a moment in Heaven or Hell after an incident that left them almost dead. Accounts of these events have been told by both Atheist and people of religion in which they truly believe that they have gone to Heaven or Hell. I would like to know your opinion on this. Do you believe these events truly happened to these people or that it is only a figment of their imagination?

I believe the events these people experience are true (tell why) 31
I believe the events these people experience are false (tell why) 32

What they experience is true, whether or not it's real.

When there is a lack of oxygen to the brain you have an experience which is comparable to tripping, if you have ever passed out you may know what I mean. I believe people who have near death expeiences may be going through a similar process.

True that. The brain shutting down often manifests itself to the person dying as a bright light in the distance which is get closer. Wouldn't it be strange if much religion was invented to explain a natural physiological process?

I believe in near-death experiences because there are a lot of accounts of people looking "down" on doctors, nurses and others and recounting things that happened that they could not possibly know otherwise. People who are dying also talk to the dead and often, people who have been "out of it" for days, or longer, suddenly become lucid just before death and recognize everyone in the room, but also believe those who are dead are also present.

I've had one and yes I believe it was real. I pleaded that it was not my time and that my kids needed me. Clinically dead on side if road in a car wreck. 2 weeks in a coma. But I got to come back.

Having had several myself, I can tell you that it's nothing more that hysteria. People need to get a grip.

I have had one and it really did give meaning to my life! i was in that in between phase, and when i saw that light, i remembered it, it being so beautiful! i wanted to be dead so bad and give up my life in a heartbeat, bcuz it really is that wonderful! but it wasnt my time so i had to return to the miserable earth.

This made me envy those who have died! whenever i know of somebody mourning a loved one's passing i tell them this story . I think it has helped them not hurt so much. :)

Well, what these people see , i think, are most likely just hallucinations caused by the lack of oxygen going to their brains, due to whatever making them come close to death in the first place! But who knows, maybe, just maybe, they are having OBE's (out-of-body experiences) as their spirits rise out of their bodies towards heaven. But hey, no offense to anyone who actually believes this stuff or has experienced it.

Your title says Neat instead of Near. Go fix it before it gets approved.
