What does the word woke mean to you?

When the desire to stop discrimination and injustices overrides logic and common sense.

It means I am biased.

It means I am conscious, and have crossed over from the bad dreams of slumber to the nightmare of wakefulness.

I see the term "woke" as meaning "Overly obsessed with social issues, to the point of disregarding the majority's needs, and fundamental values". Some may see that as positive, but to me that seems to be a hard negative.

Some do that, yes, but most people don't use that word just to mock liberals.

It's used to mock the extremists. Like wow? Yeah, it's used to mock people like that.

Do you know what it means to be "woke" nowadays?

In the political sense? Negative. It means an overuse of political correctness, an obsession with "diversity" and utopian thinking, eerie misuse of the term "equity", and loving to "support" things without ever doing anything that actually helps.

It manages to get attributed to minorities a lot, which is bothersome. The way it's used today just isn't the same as the way it was used originally.

Being so open-minded that your brain falls out.

It's a sarcastic way of calling someone ignorant and delusional

I don’t know but I always see it used negatively, sometimes on things I don’t see as negative things.

Sometimes there’s some over-reach of political correctness and I’ll see it used there, or when someone or a company is virtue signalling for obvious PR reasons.

So it’s a bit of a mixed bag, the way I see the word, it’s connotations and meaning. It seems to be a lot of things all at once, but speaks often of an ignorance, or of maladjusted social change.

To me, it just means I need to ask you what pronouns you want me to use when I'm talking to you, if I elect to continue to talk to you.

it started out in the black community to mean a person who is aware of white supremacy in society. now people use it to mean when a minority is on their tv or at their work. it feels like a new way to say hard R.

Originally, it was a positive word. I think I first heard it around 2015. People then would willingly use it to describe themselves, whereas now others use it as a negative description of others (an insult). If someone was woke back then, they were aware of political issues that others weren't and held views that they considered obvious but were unpopular. Hence why the ones who shared those views were "woke" while those who didn't were asleep. In the past few years it developed into just an insult used against liberals deemed to have radical opinions, especially in regards to LGBT and other minorities.

Like many buzzwords, I think it's been twisted into something different from its origin, is irritatingly overused, and needs to just die off ASAP.
