What if..

What if aliens with the capacity of faster-than-light travel are abundant but we don't know about them because they saw the human race and decided "Fuck no. We're not allowing them to achieve space flight because they'll ruin everything they touch"? What if we're the destructive rednecks of the galaxy?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

We are the ghetto of the galaxy. The government definitely has the technology from aliens.

    I wouldn't be surprised.

I like the idea of us being the rednecks of the galaxy.

I like the idea of us being the furthest along. Imagine us finally finding an alien species only for them to be in the middle ages or something.

Or we are the first to get this far. By that I mean, we might not be the ONLY life in the universe but that does not mean we arent the ONLY sentient species that can use tools. Theres probably planets with the most inteligent species that are dolphins... not gonna invent space travel anytime soon.

Depends if the cut off of what hampers most complex life is either behind us or just ahead of us.

Assuming we dont kill ourselves we are set to break down the laws of physics within a millenia or two.

Humans are not the most perfect species to ever exist. This comment is loaded.

We just might be. Think about it. We are social of course but that's only one aspect of the equation to be the dominant species on a planet. Look at ants, humans are like ants but can be broken down into individuals. Apes go to war with eachother constantly when they compete for food. Survival of the fittest breeds being warlike when you get in to tribal sized groups. When land is plentiful you see more peace times.

I cant see another species not going down the exact same path as humans did. We divide ourselves by language culture even by skin color. Theres no guarentee another species wont see tribal differences too.

No, humans aren't. I understand you're a human supremacist and want to think think humans are the greatest species of all time and better than every other species out there, but that's not the case.

You arent giving a specific reason to why humans arent superior. Just saying we arent. I gave reasons why we are, and that any other sapient species would likely go down the same path.

Paint me a picture of a species that could do better. Since we are the furthest along of course you would have to do some speculative biology.

First off, there are probably more unknown species that exist that nobody has even heard of. If there are most likely tons of species that nobody even knows exists, how are humans even going to have the nerve to say they are superior?

Even species that we already know exist, like animals are above humans. Humans isn't this perfect species you're trying to make them out to be. Enough already.

The other theory is that we're the last species of sentient life and other planets already wiped each other out.

I believe you misunderstood my statement. The other aliens blew their *own* planets to hell. Nuclear warfare sort of deal.

        • Ah, gotcha. Maybe it's just an inevitability of sentient life to destroy itself

      I love this theory.
