It depends where you live. Their curfew should be before whatever time your area becomes unsafe for a 16 year old, but also late enough to allow a bit of independence prior to being truly independent.

It totally depends where they are, who they are with. If they are on street walking they should be inside around dark. If they are in a friends backyard, I say pretty whenever they want.

They should never be let out of the house.

Head home when it starts to get dark - about 10pm.

      ROFL...

I'm laughing because where I live it starts getting dark at 4PM in the winter. In the summer it starts getting dark around 8 or 9.

But when I was in Norway in the summer it wasn't "dark" until after 10 pm. And it never got very dark either.... but in their winter I'm not sure how soon it gets dark... so that could be even funnier. ;)

Norway has one of the highest rates of suicide.. mainly due toe the lack of sun.

My parents just followed the driving curfew that is in place where I live. Can't drive between 12:30 and 5am if you are under 18. So they just used that as a regular curfew.

    Other:

Technically if a 16 year old is responsible they wouldn't be trying to force mommy & daddy or the lawman to change the curfew. They would be responsible and be home by 9pm on weekdays / school nights and 10 on weekends. Unless they're staying out later to work a job.

My curfew was at eight when I was that age, however I never went outside so I never had to worry about it. Now I'm 19 and they couldn't care less.

  • well if they want to turn up at whatever time they want then they can face the consequences. Which should be that you should lock all the doors and not let them inside, and if they die of the cold thats their fault for being stupid enough to come home too late :)

I live in London Ontario Canada, which is mostly african american and middle-eastern people most of which are violent, but I do have to say growing up I never had a cerfew. I would go over to my friends apartment and we'd go outside at 3 AM to the local basketball court (usually people would already be their because we're ghetto as fuck) and we'd blast rap and play basketball with other highschool students, but I really just have to say; use your fucking brain when going out, know the area, know the people.

Do you mean curfew as when to be in the house or when to go to sleep? Since when I was a child my parents always made us come in before 5 or when it stayed light till 8 they let us stay till 8. Usually they wanted us in before it got dark. Which was usually 5 until daylight savings where it added a some light.

  • I never had a "curfew". Although, when I was 16 I had a lot of responsibilities and my mother wasn't really in "parenting" condition since my dad had died that year. I had to be home to ride the horses and feed both the horses and dogs. After that, (provided I had any energy left and no school work) I could do whatever I pleased. Obviously if I was going to be late, I might have left a note.... but that's about it.

Well.. at a school night I'm home around 10 at night, but thats because my school ends late and I have to travel far.

Personally I've never had a curfew in summers, but that was probably because I never went out.

As long as they aren't causing problem let them have complete freedom, however they should call you as a source of closure for you and responsibility, if they want independence they have to be responsible enough to call you as well. Now distance is a factor you should worry about, how far are they going?

  • Just1question

Yeah basically.. start heading home just as it gets dark so you can say "I started walking but it got dark quickly"

I never had a curfew. When I was 16, I could come home at 4 am on weekends and my parents could care less. I was always a pretty responsible kid though.

    For a normal 16 year old, I'd say 1 or 2 am.
