I enjoyed the sarcasm that this play on the words using a pun conveyed.

Or am I reading to much into it?

In my opinion, OP, it would be better to give the twins separate (less similar names). Trust me, they would thank you for it I am sure.

How about twin names that don't start with the same letter, but still match?

Like music names: Harmony and Melody (or Cadence, Carol, Belle)
Jewels: Jade and Amber (or Crystal)
    Seasons: Summer and Autumn
Months: May and June (or April)
Flowers: Heather and Jasmine (or Violet, Rose, Lily, etc.)
Colors: Hazel and Scarlet (or Sienna, Jade, Violet, etc.)
Nouns: Hope and Destiny (or Faith, Grace, Mercy)
Opposites: Dawn and Luna, Ashe and Raine, Terra and Aria

I think he is saying that it would be difficult for them having names that are so similar. I can imagine how annoying that must be for many twins...

I wouldn't give them matching names. I have a twin sister, and we're not identical, and our names don't match whatsoever, but people still mix us up. Having matchy names will only worsen the confusion.

She sells seashells ... enough with the alliteration. Give them separate, distinguishable names. They'll be sharing enough together all their lives - what you can do is give them the space to have their own separate identities starting with names. Oh and don't dress them alike.

At least, I wasn't suggesting that she name them: Vagina or Shithead (Yes, children have actually been named these). These names are interesting and aren't dated. As long as the parent gets the pronunciation and spelling right it should be fine. Of course, I wasn't saying that they should only pick what's on the list, I just going them some ideas.

Mando is completely right. Too often twins are used as the parents' playthings, to be given matching names and matching clothes and matching everything. They need separate identities. You could still use one of myownopinions's suggestions if your friend really wants to give them similar names, but definitely don't use alliterative ones.

Be mindful of the names themselves, too. Kids with names that demonstrate the simple rules of language, like an "e" at the end changing the vowel sound, have been shown to learn the English language more quickly than their peers with names such as Chrystal (has an unusual y sound and breaks the ch rule) or any names with apostrophes (which could lead to difficulty distinguishing your and you're, which people have enough trouble with already). Few people think about this when naming their child, and the ones who do often think the opposite, that having unusual names will help them understand that the English language is full of exceptions. But the numbers don't lie.

Well, for ultra-modern, the trend seems to be to pick a place name like Brittany or Chelsea and then spell it differently, i.e. Britney and Chelsy. Places could be chosen that haven't yet been subject to this and if it starts a trend, what's more modern than being at the very head of a trend?

With this in mind, perhaps they could be called Honnalooloo and Bayjing.

Heh! I confused myself with bananaface and dom180 yesterday. I wonder what it is with the English and redness. Either way, I'm yellow today and in the Mando camp now. Although I think smartasscookie used to be yellow too, but then she turned green. It's so weird how we get used to people's colours.

Yeah, Mando has been yellow for a long time I think? Though, I seem to want to think he was blue at one time? Yeah, I like smartasscookie as green :)

Indeed we do get used to people's colors. I've been green on here since the beginning, and people would probably freak if I changed colors one day. I have to wait now though, because they might be expecting it.
