What is the difference between an anthology of films and an anthology film?

    For instance- Alien, Rocky, The Fast and the Furious- would be an anthology of films.

    The Lord of the Rings, The Hunger Games, Star Wars- these would be anthology films.

    To be honest I've never actually heard the distinction before.
