What is the maximum amount of cash💰 normal to carry with you in public?

In your experience or time in carrying paper cash or using cash to pay for things, what would you consider “normal maximum amount” of money a person should ever consider carrying in their wallet? My friend recommended to me no more than $600 in cash? He said any person carrying $600 or more on them in public is a possible risk because they could end up getting robbed or mugged for carrying that large of amount of money on them in public?

what about you? If you were to withdraw paper cash from the bank to be able to have cash to carry with you: What’s the most/maximum amount you would consider normal to withdraw and carry with you in person?

$500 1
$60 5

I decide what I want to buy before I leave and only take that amount of cash with me. If someone robs me well good for them they are going to jail over 15 bucks.

I use mostly cash due to bank transactions so I carry about 300 usually. Not if I'm going to a show though. Only 40 then.

I have an emergency £40 in my backpack and technically another £20 in my wallet but the banknote has expired.

When I used to go to Camden and Brick Lane I would take about £160 in cash but in different wallets in my backpack so when I opened one people wouldn’t see it all. Those markets are full of mass produced tat and overpriced rags now though.

20 dollars in small Bill's, card for everything else.

Reasonably you can go completely cashless. Plus it's an easy excuse to keep beggars at bay.

Keeping a wad of money like that is just asking for trouble.

It's unwise to carry much cash these days. With all the places that accept debit you don't need to.

The right answer depends on your tolerance of risk, and how rich you are. I usually get $300 and spend it over a week or two (I strongly prefer tipping in cash), but I am a very large very scary looking old white man in a very safe neighborhood - nobody tries anything. If I lived somewhere worse, or in a big city, or was less intimidating, I'd step it down. When I travel, it's usually $100 hidden somewhere for emergencies, and plastic only.

I mostly use debit cards. The only time I have more than $60 in my wallet is if I'm about to meet my dealer.

$600 or more, so my money doesn't get sucked by the government paying me.

I only bother bringing my wallet with me when I'm specifically going shopping, and then I always have about €100-200 on me. The most I'd bring would be about €350. I have brought more than that before but it did feel a bit dodgy alright. I don't use cards.

Sometimes I carry none. But usually 5-15. If I had more than 100 on me I'd carry some in the wallet and some elsewhere on me.

I used to carry 200-300. Now I don’t leave my house, let alone have money.
