What is the point of shadow-banning?

Seriously, what is the point of shadow-banning a user or a post?

Why not just plain ban/delete them? I assume it's less of a hassle and that's it.

Amairite?

I think the point is to delay new account making. Nearly everyone will make a new account after getting banned, if you are shadow banned you may not realize that you have been banned, and will keep posting in vain.

What could someone possibly do to get banned off THIS site?
I mean with the language, bickering, posts in bad taste, etc.

IS there such a thing as a bannable offense?

I think the idea is that if they're shaddowbanned, they just think they're being ignored and eventually go away because they're bored of not getting attention.

Whoever thinks that's how the world works, obviously has no real world experience...

"Just ignore them, they'll get bored and go away" is like...some super shitty and retardedly inaccurate advice we give kids and has somehow perpetuated into adulthood. All it does is excuse bad behaviour.
