What is this i just forget things(read description)

So I forget things a lot, its not like that my memory is permanently erased or lost I just forget some things (actually most things) & these comes back to me after some time idk what it is but I am sure that am not suffering from short term memory loss or anything...
sometimes when I am about to do something like read that book in the shelve, i go in the room & I literally forget why I came in that room for like few seconds, then it comes back to me & the ironic part is that I am still 18 not some old guy
So does this happen to everyone ??

Have you hot a million things running around in your head all the time. That will make you forget what you're supposed to be doing.

I think you may be in a time of your life in which you have too many things through your head.
Even if you think you don't have something particular in mind you may be stressed out and your subconscious may be full of things.
I suggest you just take your time and relax and think about all the things going on in your life.

I think I get this too? Do you sometimes wake up one morning and then remember something easily that you didnt remember quite well the day before?

  • Yeah depends on how often you experience these memory losses and how busy your mind is with other things. It might be something normal if you are very busy mentally with absorbing knowledge, it might be normal if that's just how you are and you can train your memory, it might be abnormal if you developed or inherited a mental condition or something similar. If you feel like that really stays in your way of living your life then see a doctor and keep investigating it.

      • I study 12 hoursa day with no other significant activity. My life is all about absorbing knowledge. I know how it feels. I don't remember a lot of things even after repetition.

          • No. I would never trade a degree that will change my life and boost my career prospects for some random trash I need to remember such as why I am in a room or being a bit disoriented. I will keep up studying as hard as I can and I ignore the rest and that's that.

What do you mean, you forget /most/ things? If you forget so much, not normal.
If it's rarely, it's ok. I have gone into a room and forgot what did I want to do.

I quite didn't understand. Also what is your age then?

  • Sounds like absentmindedness which is normal if you have a lot on your mind (school, gf/bf, exams, college, work etc). There are plenty of free memory tests you can take online to make sure you don’t have a real issue developing. Just hit a reputable site (avoid .com sites).

      • Then it’s likely what I said, but it doesn’t hurt to take the tests.
