I lived with someone for two years who was really into playing poker. Never again!

    • Was that person ever aggressive towards you? Can you describe any mood changes that person went through? And did that person ruin their life? Your feedback will be appreciated

He was never physically aggressive towards me, but he was always asking about my money. ALWAYS! Sadly, he was expert at coming between me and any money I had. He once spent 30 hours playing poker at a casino here in Las Vegas. I always felt used and neglected.

getting some poker time in is great. Playing cards isn't bad either. Har har.

seems like a bit of a strange question to me. As if playing poker is a defining characteristic of someone. it's typically more of a hobby than a lifestyle. Of course there are exceptions. I play in a tournament over a friends once a month. Played last night in fact. The buy in is only $30 but usually about 30 people show up so you have the chance of winning a fair amount of money. I came in second and won $325. I enjoy the game. It combines mathematics, psychology, strategy and luck. Oh, yeah, the question. I think poker players are slightly below animal fuckers and slightly above pederast.

    • As a hobbie, do you think Poker has ever impacted your life in a bad way? Do you know anyone who's addicted to it? If you do please describe them if you can. Your feedback will be appreciated

No, it hasn't impacted my life in a negative way. I've made more money than I've lost and made some good friends in the process. It's been a more beneficial than detrimental hobby. I don't know anyone who is truly addicted. My dad plays once a week but he's not addicted. It's more of a social thing among very wealthy, influential men in the community for him. Sorry I couldn't tell you about anyone I know who's sucked dick for poker chips. Haha

Fucking love poker, started playing in 6th form for skittles, occasionally play it at a casino in the town over, not for much though it's about the enjoyment of the game for me rather than the money or risk,

As long as someone wasn't ruining their life by playing it I don't care, even then they have an adiction which is usually representative of something larger, I wouldn't judge them for it and they should probably get help for it but in my eyes as long as they're responsible adults it's their money they can do what they want with it, if they want to risk it all its their prerogative

    • Do you have any friends who eventually became addicted to poker? And do you consider yourself moderately addicted to it? Your feedback will be appreciated

I get the feeling this is part of a study or survey haha

I'm not aware of any friends getting addicted, the only time we play is when we go to g's casino which is maybe 3-4 times a year, I wouldn't consider myself addicted either, I find myself looking forward to playing poker when we do, its an enjoyable experience but for the rest of the year poker doesn't really cross my mind

        • Fair enough, you play poker mainly for fun and that's good.

And yes, this is part of a personal study. Thanks for sharing your experience

As long as people who aren't addicts understand that, things are good. I played poker with some friends on a regular basis in days passed, but we always kept the buy-in at around $5, and nobody ended up dropping more than $15 in a single night. That way, nobody lost much money but there's still something at stake.

When you start betting real money, I imagine that real problems can arise. I've definitely heard about people partly funding schooling through online poker, but poker is a zero sum game-that means the money came from somebody else.

    • Yes this poll is about real money poker. I'm sorry I didnt make that clear.
That sounds like a good strategy to have fun with poker in a balanced way

I'm biased, if someone says they play poker I instantly think "sleaze-ball/wheeler-dealer".

As long as it's played for fun as seekelp described, I see nothing wrong with it. But the instant someone gets in a bad mood when they lose or needs the game in exclusion of other parts of their lives, then it stops being a pastime it can become a real problem.
I have known a couple of professional gamblers and they are some of the most unemotional people I have ever met. During work (to them gambling IS work), or after, you would never know whether they were winning or losing by their mood.
For most penny ante poker for fun should be their game. Any body who needs the money, should not seek it in the deal or the roll of the dice.

    • Do you think poker has changed these people's personalities then? Made them colder and more logical in a way?

And do this people play poker for a living and are successful at it?

      Your feedback will be appreciated

No, it's the other way around, IMO. The mentality to play poker is in place first. Not all cool logical thinkers play poker, but all winners at poker are cool logical thinkers.
Yes, these were professional gamblers, and as such they pretty much had to be winners, by definition. Of course they lost, but never as much as they won or nobody would hire them to play for them.
These guys NEVER gambled their own money; they had fat cat backers with whom they split the winnings. There were very, very few of these guys back when I knew a couple; perhaps they don't even exist today.
It's been a very long time since I was in Reno. Last time I was there, the casino paid for both wedding bands, the ceremony, the room, food and drinks, but I did not walk away with any real cash. Once I've won what I set out to win, I'm gone. I'm no gambler, that's for sure. Sad part is that I love to play, but quite often I reach my goal in an hour or two, so it's hasta the bye, bye for me.

        • Not using their own money is a fairly smart move.
I also agree you have to think logically to win at poker.
