Atheist is not a religion. Thats a total contradiction.
Or like someone else said on this site: "like saying bald is a hair colour." I thought that was pretty good.
I agree, however atheists seem to preach to other people so freaking much that I'd call it a religion, alright. It's like having a steak with a vegan at the table..0_o
yeah, then school is preaching. athiests are factual. school is factual. so hows about you tell your teacher to shut her mouth next time in lesson because you don't want your inner sanctity tarnished?
I wasn't talking about my inner sanctity. And if you're talking on a school level then I'll probably have a hard time to explain that there are certain theories in science, especially branches of physics and theoretical math that have stepped way beyond what you call "factual". I remember highschool science was all clear and structured, however once you step beyond the basic level you're welcome to belive in god, devil and green aliens. So please don't b.s. me about "factual". This is exactly the arrogance level I was talking about when i mentioned atheist preaching.
It's not preaching, it's more along the lines of actually educating the masses of the existence of REALITY. Something a lot of people seem to have a hard time of grasping.
Let me further elaborate:
I'm not saying there isn't a God or any religion is necessarily wrong. I'm just saying they have yet to prove themselves right. They lose all legitimacy with me until they can do that.
Jehova's witnesses are "educating" too when they knock on your door every saturday morning. I'm just saying that at this point in human development there are so many ways of accessing information that we don't need people to tell us what they think might be right. yet occasionally I happen to have those annoying conversations along the lines of "why am I christian?" and "what if my religion is wrong?". I mean.. seriously, people.. leave me alone.
It's more related to the acceptance of scientific fact. Most Atheists won't care so much about someone's beliefs; however, it does become a problem to them when the religious feel the need to push their beliefs everywhere. Some Christians in the U.S. play this game where they assume God exists automatically and anybody who doesn't worship him is denying him.
My family does exactly that to me. They still think that. It doesn't change the fact in my mind that they are complete idiots because they are my parents. To top it off, they act like "Oh, stop picking on the poor Christians! We are the most hated religion, therefore we are right!"
I'm fucking sick of the ideology as much as I think it is hilarious how ignorant people can become.
If you're one of those Christians that doesn't do any of this, then know that I'm not talking about you. I'm talking about the annoying extremists.
Atheism is a religion that has no God.
To not follow a religion is to not care whether or not God exists.
Atheists have a firm belief that God does not exist, making it a religion.
Atheism is as much of a religion as "off" is a TV channel.
"To not follow a religion is to not care whether or not God exists."
That's hilarious. You clearly have no idea why Atheists are Atheists, right? They don't deny God, they deny the stupid claims people put out, saying he's real because a 2000 year-old book made by primitive man said so.
"Atheists have a firm belief that God does not exist, making it a religion."
There are two types of Atheists: Gnostic and Agnostic. Gnostic says that there is no God because there is no proof of him. Agnostic says there may be a God, but for now we don't know.
I have this habit called not smoking, you know. Not smoking is a habit the same way atheism is a religion.
The only thing 'non-smoker' tells us about is that someone is not doing one particular thing, but it doesn't tell us about what that person is really doing then. What you don't believe in isn't a belief system and therefore not a religion.
In addition to not believing in theism, I also don't believe in rebirth, so do I have multiple religions because there's multiple religious ideas I don't believe in? Basically, that's bs.
Also, not believing in a god doesn't mean having a firm belief that something doesn't exist. I don't believe in pink elephants because there's no evidence for them at the moment but that doesn't mean that I assert to know that pink elephants don't exist.
atheism is not a relligion, (you should of put: I have no belifes, that would of made more sence).
I voted atheism anyway
I don't believe that there is any god, or a higher being. The world is what you make it. Suffering happens in response to the actions of others.
but at the same time
I believe in things such as fate, that what happens was predetermined. We have no control over anything.
I know full well that I just contradicted myself, but I do this with everything. I am always in two minds even on the smallest matters.
Born and raised an orthodox christian, converted to buddhism a decade ago. Still love christianity and the church, though.
I hate people who argue over religion. What business is it of yours if I believe in God or not?
I'm atheist, however atheism isn't a religion because there is no "higher power"
Agnostic. I'm not going to sit around and say that there is or isn't a god. Frankly, nobody knows for sure. I just have the common sense not to pull a SuckOnThis and say I know something when I don't. ^_^
what do aethiest beleive of in the creation of the universe? i beleive i dont know, but what i do know is that the force of nature and earth and sun are our only known givers of life.
I was raised, confirmed, and baptized as a Luthern. At this point in my life I feel myself drifting more towards agnostic though.
Well I was baptised as a Roman Catholic. I baptised my daughter as a Roman Catholic, too I supose I thought it was my duty and loyalty. I don't practice it though. I think that people should be able to choose their own religion. x
I don't really have one. That is to say, I don't have one that thinks enough about me to want to punish me for anything. Of the religions that interest me, the feeling is mutual. I have a lot of respect for any teaching whose primary purpose is to enlighten people, to ease their lives, to give them meaning, to be better people. I have a lot of disrespect for anyone who'd seek to hang onto the coat-tails of a selfless message to see what they can wheedle from others, what insecurities of their own they can act badly because of, what power they can achieve while sullying themselves.
