What is your survival hunting weapon choice?

I grew up in the bush and I think you need a good rifle more than anything else, and you should know how to use it too.

.22lr Cheap, reliable, and if you wanted to use .22 short ammo you can take out a bunch of rabbits before they even know what hit them. regular .22lr rounds are great for a lot of smaller game which you will see more of in most places ion North America than large game.

My own choice is the .357MAG revolver. In my opinion, this is the most versatile caliber, as it can chamber low-velocity .38SPECIAL wadcutters for use on small game, whereas full-strength .357MAG loads are adequate for deer and black bear-sized game. It is also one of the most compact center-fire calibers; it would not be unrealistic to carry 200rounds of ammo. Handguns are challenging to shoot accurately, but with practice, and a good scope, it can take game at 50 yards or more, which is just dandy for the dense eastern forests. A revolver need not weigh more than 2.5lbs. and can hang comfortably hands-free on a chest holster.

I would take a 12 gauge with 00 buck, bird shot, and slugs. That way you have some variety. And a high capacity and reliable pistol like a 9mm Ruger sr9 (what I own, very nice) or a Glock or Springfield XDM but I don't know about their capacity. And obviously a good knife. I hope I was helpful.

22LR bullets are cheap, you can pack a ton of them, and you don't have to clean out the gun all that often. Plus, you're more likely to encounter a ton of smaller animals like birds or rabbits, than larger animals (deer, bears) that you'd want to use a larger around to take out.

Now, if I were worried about getting attacked by a bear, I'd want a larger round. But is mainly just for hunting. Plus, what're the odds you'd actually run into a bear?

Knife

Obviously a combination. Why take 1 when you can take... a lot more?

Combo: .30-06 rifle, a good fixed blade knife, and a revolver (.357 or .44 mag).

These will see you through the wilderness.

A KNIFE! how do you go into the woods with no knife. I hunt and camp like a sumbitch, and I always need a knife. YOu can tie a knife to a stick and you have a spear. YOu can make bows and arrows using a knife.
