The age when you're sure you're ready for sex.

I completely agree, it depends on the person. I know people who were ready at 14ish, I'm 17 and I'm not ready yet.

    • What if you were sure you're ready at age 12? That makes it right?

      • You wouldn't be sure at 12... I'm sure ariannel meant when you are of legal age and sure of it. Personally, I lost mine when I was 14 and don't regret it.

the laws are 16, but go for it as soon as you feel you're ready forit

          • I'm perfectly well aware what the laws were and are, I'm 22 now.

But laws differ in different countries, the age of consent is 14 in some places and 17 in others.

I doubt someone would be SURE at 12 years old. I certainly wasn't. I just think that there should be no judging on what age is appropriate or "perfect". The best age is when you're comfortable and ready (enthusiastic, even) for it. If you're nervous or scared or self-conscious or uncomfortable, that would NOT be ideal.

Sex should be fun and enjoyed with someone you like and care for. Well, that's just my opinion anyway...

I would say when you find someone you love and after you get married.. (i don't really think age matters) knock your selves! out but not literally. Really though i only intend to lose my virginity after marriage. And if im getting married it will only be to whom i love.

If both want to have sex then I don't think it matters what age they are. As long as they use protection. I'm from Sweden though and we start really early to teach about safe sex in school, so unwanted pregnancys aren't so common. I guess it's different in other countries.

    16 or older.

The girls in my high school that lost it younger than 16 were targeted by the older boys because they were considered "easy". Those girls never knew that people were calling them sluts behind their backs, even the ones in relationships. Everyone was so catty back then.

        I don't see your comment. :(

I should have specified that I think 16 is a little high and that I think it depends a lot more on the individual than the age. Not everyone is ready at the same time. It sucks that girls who lost it, before they were 16, were targeted because the boys of the same age were not. A total double-standard.

I lost my virginity at 19, but looking back, I think I could have been very happy losing it at 15/16. I had lots of suitors, but I waited for fear of being gossiped about or called a slut.

Yeah I should have broken those down and just said them instead of asking.

        2000's : Americanized values - 17
        World value - 14

        1800's : Americanized values - 21
        World values -14

        1500's : Americanized - Didn't exist. Church was 22.
World - onset of puberty roughly 12 with church consent

1000 or before : Americanized- didn't exist, prechurch was 16
        World - onset of puberty

Roman/Greek Empires - Boys and girls were handed to friends/neighbors for start of apprenticeship. Usually included sexual training. 8-10 was start.

Humanity as a whole - the average age a girl lost virginity was around 11. The average age a boy lost his was around 18. Often times this was so he would be old enough to support a girl, and she was young enough to survive childbirth. Even today some cultures feel having a period is a waste of a potential pregnancy, and start the girls having sex before they have their first period.

American values are the result of parents who did not want (irresponsibly) to teach their children birth-control and as a result, do not want to take care (responsibility) of unwanted pregnancies, thereby passing rediculous laws with social stigmas as a result...

            Comment Hidden ( show )
              -
            • Alison89

I think I'm okay with social stigmas that make people think twice about having sex when they aren't ready. If you're thinking twice, then you're probably not ready.

I'm all for teaching children about birth control, though. Just telling them not to do it is pretty bad parenting and the cause of many unwanted children, including from the parents who say they never did it until they were married.

t's common for a Girl to have lost Her Virginity from the age of 12 to 16 as opposed to the sweet old fashioned notion of Her waiting for "The Right One" this can be along the adage that "Girls Mature Faster" Most guys live on boast so they will fabricate about How early they lost it an may in fact be still UNDIPPED. But if a Guy hasn't lost it by 21, He probably will be regarded as an Onanist in His social circles. 18 is actually when You should get started. It's the Last call to get oriented with the gender You are attracted to.

I can't answer. I was 15 and much to young. If I had the proper guidance in life I believe it would have been much later. And at that age you don't even know the difference between lust and love. When you truly love someone and they truly love you back. Then the two of you need to discuss the matter together and decide what is right for you. It can only happen once so don't let peer pressure or some jerk talk you into it or feel obligated just because you kiss or something and he gets all hard and horny.

I said 18-22. I lost mine when I was 15 though. I wish I had waited until I was an adult to make big decisions like that.. I don't regret how I lost it or anything, it was actually really nice. With a guy I ended up dating for two years and it was his first time too.

But anyway, I would go for the age of "adult-hood". Sex in high school makes everything complicated and painful. Emotionally, and probably physically too I guess. I'm just rambling now so I'll stop.

You would be fighting your natural instincts, which is unhealthy and would make you appear constantly anxious in social circumstances. What about birth-control? (taught before age 12) And where does it say that the young girls parents have sole responsibility? The boys parents have equal responsibility! If the father is 18+, sue for child support.

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • bobbert

16 or 17 IF mature enough to handle the responsibilities possible risks and stress that is associated with it. Also, only if the partner is 17 or 16. It would probably be better if 18+, but 16 or 17 is the minimum.

I was 18 when I lost my virginity.

The issue of underage sex is something that I'm trying to resolve philosophically. I am firmly against pedophilia, as I believe that a child's brain is not yet developed enough to give valid consent. But I also believe that a good age of consent would be 16 or 18 - both years before neurological adulthood (around age 25).

I think most people would agree with me on both points (in most countries pedophilia is illegal, and legal adulthood is under 20), but are they not somewhat contradictory?

And why do we think it becomes acceptable when BOTH people involved are neurologically underdeveloped? That both parties on equal footing in terms of immaturity may solve the power imbalance but it doesn't really eradicate the dangers of sex - dangers which are much more serious when you're that age.

    Anyone have thoughts on this?

    Comment Hidden ( show )
      -
    • christophero1973

Neurological adulthood for: women is 25-27, men is 29-32. These numbers are acedemic as your body & mind will signal you when you are ready for sex, as having a roof over your head or money in your pocket has no bearing on your bodies sexual responses, needs, intense desires or feelings of longing to be intimate with another person.

When properly using protection, what are the dangers?

      Comment Hidden ( show )
        -
      • taciturn

I've seen a wide variety of numbers for neurological development and the median seems to be around 25. Could I ask for your source on those ages?

Sexual adulthood is entirely different from cognitive development. A thirteen year-old may be physically capable of rearing a child, but I would argue that a thirteen year-old is simply not neurologically mature enough to provide legitimate consent. I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to argue.
