Rape Town, Darfur. People gain honor by cutting off innocent victims ears and eating them.
A toilet at a music festival, honestly it wasn't that far off the trainspotting scene
Thirteen hours at the border between Hungary and Serbia.
Damn hungarians take forever to check your papers. They act like they are protecting Fort Knox for fucks sake!
The reason it took so long, was cause there were lots of turkish people going from Germany to Turkey. Since they are not from the EU, clearing customs takes forever! I'm from the EU, but the EU-only line was full with other people as well. And the worst part was that my A/C was busted. It was 41C outside and the A/C was blasting hot air in my face and there was no way to turn it off. There was an electrical problem with the head unit sensors.
Thirteen miserable hours with nothing to eat and drink, at 41C, waiting for the stupid idiots at customs!
I remember crossing into hungary from the Czech Republic on a train. Something in the air changed. There was no verbal warning, no signs, just a coldness that permeated the air. But once in the country, I thought it was lovely.
And it onky took about 3 hours to get processed and enter into North Korea. With temps well below 0.
But as for the worst place I've been, it would have to be Ely, Nevada. My husband and I were both allergic to something there which made for a horrible experience.
Really? What was wrong with it? I've always thought it would be a very interesting country to visit but then maybe I'm being romantic about the idealistic kibbutz era
It's a long story.
Suffice to say, everybody was angry (the most hate filled country I've ever visited), over taxed and therefore overworked, everything was exorbitantly expensive, and it is not a secular state.
For instance, living on a boat and sailing, fresh milk was a rarity for my daughter, so it was her treat ashore. When in a restaurant there, they would not serve my daughter milk with her meal, because of THEIR religious beliefs. Apparently it had to do with making the dishes unclean or some such crap, so I offered to buy the dishes and remove them from their restaurant after the meal. No sale.
Everything was like that. I felt really sorry for the 50 odd% of the population that were Arabs, because even though they were citizens, only the Jewish religion was acceptable and there appeared to be no acceptance of nearly half the population's beliefs.
Agree with you 100 percent. It is a beautiful country but there is a tension and hate you feel instantaneously. I though I was the only one who could see or feel it, until the people I was traveling said the same. We left for Cyprus that same day, even though I wanted to see the dead sea. But what's the point if you feel uncomfortable the whole time. I'm American , I realize we act like uneducated baboons everywhere we go. And those Americans who do not see need to leave the country to see why. News around the world does not cover up the stupid things we do like domestic news does. I was actually really ashamed when I heard a fellow American ask a Cypriot when she didn't speak English. Wow I wanted to punch her. Ok here's an American telling my own people we act like the kid in the neighborhood who was given everything and never had to work for it. That's one reason the world hates us. The other thing is YEARS of idiotic foreign policy, and sticking our nose in crap that's none of our business. Yes I love America it's home. But we Are assholes. And let's face it our country is a bully. I was in the army I fought for this country. I respect it but the truth is never an easy pill to swallow.
That does sound awful. I've also heard of "improperly" dressed women being stoned by ultra orthodox rabbis and years ago when the Women in Black used to stand in silentce in public places protesting their govt's policies against Palestine they used to get stoned and attacked too.
I did know it's not a democratic country unless you're jewish and I've also heard its prosperity has been built on US money.
I can totally understand why the jews wanted and needed a safe homeland after the holocaust, but they've done it at the expense of other people who already lived there.
Northern tip of Ellsmere Island 500 miles from the north pole in winter. Totally dark for six months.
South Carolina.. visiting friends family and her daughter peed on me continuously my entire time there..
st Helens in England. what a miserable shithole. or maybe Strabane in northern Ireland, which has been repeatedly voted the worst place to live in the UK. I'm sure it's not as bad as a lot of places in the middle East and so on though
Buttfuckers..I mean FUDDRUCKERS
They lured me in with their headline "Worlds Best Hamburgers" but whence I stepped inside...
lets just say i walked bowl legged thy mornin after. not fun.
you people have been warned
