What's up with my stubborn cat?

I have this big, fat, 15-year-old cat who's getting more stubborn in his old age. For example, I like to surf the net laying on the couch. He used to content himself by jumping up and curling up behind my knees; lately he's insisting on getting right up in front of my chest. If I move him, he will just keep coming back until I give up. He's also insisting on sleeping in my bed w/me, and I've caught him sitting on top of tables, even my 6-foot-high gun safe - anywhere he knows I DON'T want him to be.
What up with the mule-like behavior all of a sudden? He seems to be getting a tad arrogant lately.

A cat has pets.... That's you!! They are their own masters and do as they please! I mean if you wanted to discourage him you could fill a water bottle and squirt him when he's where he shouldn't be but over that ..... He owns your ass! Enjoy :) !!

Awww! Since I put my 19 year old precious kitty to sleep my 8 year old kitty has been doing what yours has been doing. He will try to also sit on my computer keyboard while I'm using it. But I love him. :)

You'd be pissed off if you were his age and had sod all to do all day and don't get your leg over once in a while...
Is he getting any? Probably not...

my cat is the same. she is still quite young and has stopped some habits like eating my fag butts, but not others.

I have noticed the same thing with two of my cats. One dis this the last 5-6 yrs of his 15yr life, the other one has started after about two years. No amount of strict training (spray bottle) will change him. He keeps getting on the table unless he sees someone coming but he KNOWS he's not allowed...it's annoying

Cats do tend to be naturally arrogant, but if this is a sudden thing, have there been any big changes like moving (or someone moving in/out)? Also, again if it's sudden, given his age he might have had some kind of health problem start up, & be doing all that attention getting stuff truly to get your attention. Otherwise I recommend a squirt bottle (the guns tend to leak).
