What's your favourite kind of juice?

What's your favourite kind of juice? Are you the kind of person that only drinks from one brand or do you not care for the brand as long as the juice tastes good? I used to only drink Juicy Juice, but now I mainly drink Apple & Eve. This is something that I've been wondering for awhile, so why not ask it on here? It's all really interesting, because people have so many different tastes.

That is true, because by drinking one brand you miss the opportunity of trying others. I drink mostly Apple and Eve and Honest ade.
Then comes minute made and Jamba juice energy drink, which is basically juice with caffeine.

Most juices are based on Apple Juice. They are all pretty much bad for you and are making you fatter because of the sugar content.

I notice a lot of brands use grape juice and pineapple juice to sweeten their juice, because those are cheap juices. If not that, they add shitloads of sugar which makes it wannabe juice.

Juicy Juice is made in China. Unless you live in China, you should probably find a different brand.

That's not 100% true. Juicy Juice is produced in the US, they just source SOME ingredients elsewhere.

Which is true for a lot of food items. Some of it either just doesn't grow in the US, and sometimes there's not enough of it in the US, sometimes it's too expensive, sometimes it's out of season. Coffee, cocoa are 2 huge examples, many many other fruits and veggies, and so on. Nothing wrong with that.

I'm pretty sure with food, 85% of volume is domestic and something like 7% of revenue is from imported foods. I can double check that but I'm pretty sure it's right.

There are allot of brands that import. Minute Maid gets there apple juice from america, germany, china and I think two other countries. It makes me wonder if it's a different variety of apple. Have you ever notice that no two brand really tastes the same?

        Comment Hidden ( show )
      • howaminotmyself

There is so much wrong with that type of behavior and you know it. I'm not talking about coffee or out of season foods. I'm talking about buying apple juice that is a product of China for consumption in a community that is thousands of miles away, and there is no shortage of apples in this country. We have been duped into thinking it is cheaper. And doesn't juicy juice claim to be 100% juice. What ingredients? I doubt the ascorbic acid is enough to claim its production location. Or maybe they are really proud of that acid.

All I'm saying, is that we have a bad relationship with what we consume. Buying local can be difficult for some items, but do we really need to buy something from far away when it grows in our back yard? I don't think most people care, and that makes me sad.

I see where you are coming from with this.
If anything, regardless of the country, I would prefer if the juice was organic.
In america, unfortunately most of what is produced is full of unnecessary pesticides and other chemicals. I'm sure there are many people with fruit trees, but do you ever really hear about them using what's on their land and making juice from it?

I used to have some raspberry and I think blackberry bushes. I don't remember ever eating from them, but I know my parents used to make jam from them.
I remember being in wonder from them and I always wanted to try them, but they were always covered in webs! We got rid of them awhile ago. I have some gooseberry trees. I tried a berry once and it was so fucking sweet that nothing needed to be added to it. We have walnut trees and maple trees. I don't eat the nuts, because I'm afraid of finding worms. I don't make syrup, because I don't have any tools.

Needless to say, I'm sure people have the resources, but most don't even put them to good use. You have companies that offer the products they want, but without the hassle, so they hop on the band wagon.

Do you get what I'm saying?

Well apples are harvested in the fall, just like any other fruit they have their season. I'm not up on juice making or how long it can 'keep' for or anything, but that could be a reason behind it. I mean, that's why we import fresh apples, just because they grow here doesn't mean they are available fresh anytime. Apples have a pretty short window of availability....I don't know the whole story behind why it's imported for juice, I'll try to find out.

I don't disagree that people have no clue and no care as to where their food comes from or what's in it. At the same time, bashing something just because it's imported isn't right either. Why is it imported? is more important. If it's simply for availability, OK. But what about reasons you may not think of like the cost of operating a farm in the US, the never ending regulations, the taxes on land (and everything else)....We're making it harder and harder every day for people to farm in the US.

        Yes, those figures are correct.

        Just in case you wondered....

Import shares by volume: Fish and shellfish 79%, fruits and nuts 32%, beer and wine 16%, vegetables 13%, grains and grain products 12%, sweeteners and candy 11%, red meats 10%, dairy products 3%.

Who does the the Simply brand?
I remember hearing the name from somewhere, but I'm not sure where.

I have to drink 100% or I'm not drinking it at all. Who wants to drink a sugary cocktail when they could be having the real stuff?!

I've been craving cranberry lately. Apple & Eve has it in cute little cartons.
When I think of Ocean Spray I automatically think of cranberry juice. Just like when I think of Welche's all I can think of is Grape juice. I don't know what I think of Juicy Juice though...

Minute Maid makes the Simply brand, Coke owns it, I guess.

Yeah, I always make sure I'm buying 100% juice (except for limeade). I hate how they sell 'juice drinks' as juice, blatantly tricking people (although people really should be reading labels). It's nothing more than Kool Aid with a drop of fruit juice in it. The sad part is people buy it thinking they are making a healthy choice but really it's no different than drinking a soda.

I'm a label reader all the time, but unfortuantely most people aren't, and boy is it tricky even when you do know how to read labels. It's sad that when it comes to food labels, they still try to be so decieving and make it so dificult.

Side note, I remember back when food didn't have the Nutrition Facts on the package! I remember when they made that labeling law, also when products weren't sealed! It was when someone was putting cyanide in Tylenol in the 80's that prompted sealing products! My parents, back in the 80's, used to send me into the store to buy them cigarettes when I was as young as 6 years old! Crazy world not so long ago!

Yeah, the world has greatly changed.

It makes me sick how these companies put all of these additives in the foods.
Jave you ever read about the side effects from artificial sweeteners? It's disgusting. I'm allergic to artificial sweaters and preservatives like BHA. I had to stop drinking Kool Aide, because of it. The last time I had it,my throat was suddenly on fire! I felt like I had eaten pulverized glass and I was chocking. It was horrible! I tried drinking something else to stop the feeling and it took about an hour or so. I refuse to touch that stuff...

I'm constantly reading the label. I usually only focus on calories: nothing 300 and above. Try to avoid anything in the 200's, etc.

I use to eat a lot of Stouffer's faux lasagna: the four cheese and the vegetable.
I kept ignoring the calories and what the guy said in eat this not that. Anyway, I finally stopped when my heart kept hurting and someone suggested that I was probably the cholesterol/fat. I haven't touched that shit since!
It baffles me that people don't read the labels and want to be obese. What the fuck is wrong with people?!
