What the frack?

Is it normal to be concerned about fracking?

Fracking is the process drilling and injecting fluid into the ground at a high pressure in order to fracture rocks and release the natural gas inside. I am concerned that some people think this is a viable solution to our energy problems.

What are your thoughts?

Thumbs up if you thought this post was going to be about Battlestar Galactica.

If it's done correctly, I have no problem with it whatsoever. It seems like a temporary solution to the current energy problems. Sure, renewable and cleaner energy is more desirable, but this is a good in-between.

Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is also used for Geothermal Energy extraction, which will need to become more widespread in the future, as Fossil Fuels are depleted.
Sometimes, the fracking process causes seismic events, sometimes to an unacceptable magnitude (Richter Scale).
It would be very beneficial if someone could invent a method for connecting the two boreholes in a Geothermal well, without fracking.

I am concerned about it because it is extremely dangerous. There have been people who had their tap running and lit a match near the water. The gas or chemicals that leaked into the water came in contact with the flames and the whole house blew up.

      SIGH.

I noticed someone disliked this comment so maybe I should clarify. Howard Wolowitz from The Big Bang Theory says "what the frack" sometimes. Don't assume I'm making shit up.

Or if you're disliking my shit because I'm not a Kate Nash fan, grow up. Not everybody likes what you like, there are more serious matters in the world, get over it. Or just get off this site, it clearly isn't for you.

      • I'm sorry if someone didn't like your comment. And that's quite the reaction. As for things that matter, energy consumption is a pretty big one. But for some reason you bring up a television show and Kate Nash and question other people's actions on serious matters? These two things seem to contradict each other.

Well what I meant was no one should hate on me for not liking someone, because that's not serious compared to actual problems in the world. Sorry if I overreacted a bit, I just felt the need to clarify why I thought of that show incase anyone was confused.
