I think it depends on what room you're talking about. I tend to prefer carpet in bedrooms, wood in living areas, and tile in kitchens, and bathrooms.
Depends on the room. In living rooms and bedrooms, I prefer carpet because it's just more soft and cozy. For kitchens, bathrooms, and mud rooms, a hard floor (though my kitchen and bathrooms are currently carpeted 🤣 - it actually isn't as bad as I thought it would be, considering the previous owners were very clean and so am I, but it wouldn't be my first choice, personally). I'm planning to change the bathrooms, though the kitchen is a coarser, indoor/outdoor type (most people don't realize it's carpet at first, including myself the first time I walked through the house) I don't mind and I love the pattern on it. I just have rugs in front of the sink, dishwasher, and stove. I have a rugs in the bathrooms as well. Works well for me!
I've never really cared for hard floors in a living space or bedroom (especially bedrooms). I can't really put my finger on why, it just isn't as cozy. Even with area rugs, it's just not the same. Maybe it's because I like what I'm used to and get stuck in my ways. 🤣 I'd also rather vacuum any day than sweep and mop, personally (though most people I know are the opposite).
Carpet is just so comfortable, too! I like waking up to putting my feet on warm carpet. I have some mild joint issues and appreciate the softness and great padding in mine, too.
I love the look of hard wood but my feet love carpet.
Wood may be easier to clean but it also scratches and gets permanent damage easily.
If your pets bring in fleas and damage your carpet they'll do a number on your hardwood as well.
I've seen the whole cycle, grandparents- hardwood, parents-carpet, me, I started carpet because of parents, changed to tile and hardwood, now back to carpet. Refinishing hardwood or replacing way too much to deal with.
Tile was probably the best, but as some one previously stated, it's a style or out of style issue.
I currently have a carpet, but on the one hand it has become kind of scratchy by now and on the other hand it is full of sweat and sperm marks, even though I clean it all the time. However, I'm used to a dark wooden floor at home and I like the look and the feeling of walking barefoot on clean wood, so my next home will have one too. Apart from the fact that it really is easier to clean and, unlike tiles, it's warm. But I wouldn't lay wooden floors everywhere either.
Linoleum tile (yes it's still available) and hardwood floor
Linoleum stands up so much better than vinyl tile, and does not release toxic fumes if there is a fire.
My friend in grade school had a dirt floor. We couldn't invite him over cause he'd always steal things.
I don't like carpet, it's never truly clean.
Carpet is outta favor havin peaked in the 70s & 80s due to ongoin cleanliness concerns
hardwood & area rugs are nice and you can always drag the rug outside beat the dirt out of it shampoo it and power wash
if it dont stand up to that you get a new one
Hardwood is more beautiful and hygienic. After a while carpet becomes a home too fleas, bugs and bacteria. We replaced all our carpets with bamboo flooring a few years back and we love it.
Hardwood is easier to clean. I like having hardwood but carpet workout rooms.
