We were fishing for anchovies about 20 miles off San Francisco on a beautiful, calm, Autumn day when the captain spotted what he thought was a huge school of them on the fish finder.
We set the net (about 600 feet long and 80 feet deep) around the school and started pull it in.
Very, very quickly it became apparent that we hadn't set around a school of anchovies, but around a bunch of jelly fish! We had 20 tons of stinging creatures in our net and no way to rid ourselves of them except by just pulling it in and cleaning the jelly fish out of the net by hand.
Four hours of shear torture followed several days of lingering pain.
Not a good day at work.
Ive had several that were equally bad. One was when i was working in a financial call center and started feeling nauseous, it ended up being the start of bad acid reflux that i had to deal with for years. Pretty scary early on though
Then one day i got pulled into a room and told i was being moved to a "high efficiency" team, so basically they were going to pay me less to handle about 3-4 times the workload. It was pretty hard to swallow and it felt like a prison sentence. Really felt hopeless when they broke the news to me
And at another job , a high paying finance trading job, i got pulled into a room one day and told i was given 6 weeks to improve my performance ir i would be let go. Well i knew that was the end if that job,
Thankfully now i am self employed and have way more freedom and make more money too. Corporate workplace sucks
With the company pick up truck I got stopped 3 times on the way to the job. I got a verbal warning, and a 5 day order to repair, and a ticket, for three different things. Part way thru the day I had to leave my second in command in charge for a couple hours while I checked on another nearby job. He inadvertently cut the hole in the roof too big so we had to remove the roof, get more materials and reinstall it, on a job where we got paid by the job, not the hour.
The day they tore down the department I worked at. I was there for almost nine years. I liked working there and I was way too attached to it to the point where I saw that food court as my second home. I kept it cleaner than my own room. I liked my regular customers. They'd tell me it was the cleanest food court in any Target store they've been to. It had some hard to find snacks that the other Targets in the nearby areas did not serve and people came just to get those. Losing that place was one of the reasons that I was kind of in a pathetic sad heap for a good portion of the summer. They had no choice but to get rid of it anyway. Over the years that entire Target location has had less and less customers. They're putting a Starbucks there to replace the food court and it should be open soon(they keep pushing back the date) and that's where I'll be working. I'm not as sad about it anymore, but I do still miss being there from time to time.
:)
One of my worst days at my weekday job was either the day where I had to deal with the pushy meth head trying to sell obviously stolen stuff, or the day when I got blamed cause an expensive bedroom set got soaked cause it was outside (to attract customers), and we got hit with a sudden downpour. Didn't help there was absolutely no sales that day.
At my other job, when I had to deal with this idiot who wanted his money back on a car he bought, even though it was sold as is, and I showed him all that was wrong with it. (Most of the cars are projects) I told him it needed a couple things before it was road ready, and I told him to bring a trailer, but he insisted on driving home to Illinois. (He came back with it on a trailer) worse still, his mother (he was a teen) was extremely rude and threatened to sue. It was an ordeal for me, but more so for my boss, I never seen him flip out like that before on anyone! (And he's one of the nicest people I know!)
The only reason we bought the car back was because we had another person who wanted it. They were happy with it.
i work at a haunted house and before i had my current role as a victim being tortured,i was in the padded cell room and i jumped out at a guy. he punched me in the face as hard as he could and knocked me out and broke my nose, keep in mind im a pretty small girl. 5'7 about 140. the guy who punched me was fucking massive. i woke up with my friend justin carrying me out of an emergency exit. other than that it was a good day haha
