What would you do if...

You are a US marine deployed to Iraq for an infiltration in a secret base. Unfortunately a malfunction in the helicopters rotor sent you and your fellow comrades in a crash landing killing the pilot and the soldiers except for one. A private who kno nothing about survival.
You're stranded in the sahara desert mid-day and far from civilization. The nearest military base is more than 50 miles away. Your food supply is gone and you know you wont last long in the heat. Fortunately your comrade accompanies you therefore you aren't alone(you are armed with an M4 assault rifle, tactical knife and a flare gun). What do you do?

Kill and eat your comrade. Its the best chance you have! 10
Wait until night fall and fire your flare gun, hoping for rescue. 34
Hara Kiri! (commit suicide) 3
Travel the 50 mile hoping you're going in the right direction. 38
Live your last moments on Earth with your comrade. 14

You have dead people around you, you could eat if you absolutely had to, wouldn't be any reason to kill the comrade. Also if you radio equipment isn't damaged then you could call it in, also if you're not in hostile territory, then I'm sure a rescue team will be sent to check on any survivors...

    • no radio communication services available. Just weapons and an inexperienced comrade. Sorry.

You apparently know nothing about the military. The military prepares you for these kind of situations. Before you start making these idiotic polls go learn something about the services please. You are trained for the unexpected. What do you think they teach them? Sure a ordinary civilian might resort to killing each other for food but military personal probobly wouldn't. I hope you never ask a real military person this.

I'm a professional survivalist, so let me educate you poor fools on how to survive this scenario.

    1. Slaughter your comrade, but do it so you save most of his blood. Fill your canteen with said blood to drink.

    2. Wrap his entrails around yourself. Cover as much of your head, torso, and arms you can.

    3. Begin your trek. Travel only at night. Intermittently poor blood over your entrail suit to keep it moist. Drink the rest.

    4. Fire your flare gun. Hope that it attracts a small tourist group. Proceed to beat them to death with your M4. We don't want to waste rounds.

    5. Commandeer the bus and drive to the nearest outpost.

    Bam. Problem solved.

First off, no true marine (or any service member for that matter) would resort to killing their own for their own personal benefit. Second, I would travel 50 miles towards the direction of the base. I would drink my own urine if it came down to it. When nightfall came, I would stop and fire my flare gun and rest. Do it all over again until we reach our destination, or die.

if you are a properly trained marine you can walk 50 miles and you will have a general idea of were to go (the sun will give you a general idea of were the north is and you knew the flight plan so you have an educated guess on were to go) come the night use the flare. and get some water from the desert night so you can start rehydrating. next day start moving again. and keep on going until you either get to a safe local or your partner dies which you will eat and drink his blood. :)

I could be wrong about this but I don't think iraq is in the sahara desert which is africa i think. The only sensible answer you wrote was to head the 50 miles back to base, if you were to kill somebody in that climate you probably have a day or 2 to eat them before decomposition would start to occur. As for firing you flare into the air? are you being serious? That won't be seen 50 miles away so it would only attract enemies. Honestly though these sound like two shit marines.

I think he made great valid points and he's also entitled to his opinion. If you didn't want it, you shouldn't have created this poll.

If you got weapons it's not such a big deal, there might be a camel around that you can shoot.

And you don't hope you're going in the right direction, you know you are. At daytime you can watch the sun (it rises in the east, then at noon it's in the south and eventually it sets in the west) and at night you can see the stars and you got the polar in the north. Hey, I've never been in the military and I know such things. Then a soldier should definately know that.

Shouldn't be sending unexperienced people in the military. Eat your gun.

I'd find some water and kill an animal to eat. Move at night, find shade during the day.

    Well... better start walking.

  • This sounds disturbing but I heard its a way to survive. Take a piece of glass (helicopter window) and urinate on it and then loeave it out on the heat for a while and it absorbs most of the urine leaving small ammounts of water.

You're in a desert, why would you risk spilling or evaporating what little liquid you have? Just drink it straight! Urine is sterile, did you know that?

      • Tehboss

just don't drink it straight if you are already dehydrated (you can get some nasty stuff in your urine) and even if it's safe it's not enough to rehydrate (most liquids leave the body in the respiration and perspiration) so other sources of water are needed

        Comment Hidden ( show )
      • True, yes I did know that well I didnt know for sure I was told but wasnt certain. Most people would rather do my idea though but the people who would do my idea are idiots and I agree if you want to survive drinking your urine is the best idea the only problem is how would you drink it? and it would be disturbing to see someone drinking someone elses urine but its about sruvival so you get the picture.

    • no. Weapons only! damn it! It says M4, knife and flare gun. Everything else is destroyed in the crash!

See that just doesn't make sense though. I mean, you'd be wearing a loaded LCE, with canteen, and your gas mask strapped to your leg...if that stuff was destroyed, you'd also be destroyed....so I just can't answer the question based on the scenario being so unbelievable...
