One of your family members starts bashing gays. You're annoyed by their ignorance and hypocrisy, so what do you do?

I have a family member who's constantly bashing gays and today I finally asked him what the hell his problem is. It's pretty irritating, especially considering I always have to hide my sexuality and listen to him go on about how gays are ruining this country and how disgusting homosexuality is. However, it's against my morals to force my views on anyone. So, opinions?

Try to engage a debate - you'd like to teach them a thing or two 7

    One of many reasons my father is not a part of my life - I don't want anything to do with a creature that is proud of their involvement beating up people who were gay or had the 'wrong' skin colour. He's proud of a lot of fucked up things.

    I'm so sorry you're in this situation. I can't imagine how awful it must be to have to hide who you are, while constantly hearing how 'wrong' who you are.

    I don't see it as you 'forcing your views' on anyone. If you say anything, you are merely standing up for your rights while someone forces their hate onto you. Why should you be abused?

    Of course, the sad reality is that with people like this...there's not a lot you can do. Their hate and fear is too deep. It's sad, it really is.

    I would say just ignore them. I had a father who was like this and use to be extremely racist to black people. I am not black and have no black friends but I was irritated.I asked him to stop because it was offensive and I had enough. He said "You and your brother are a bitch just like your mother".

    He also did this when my mother ended up leaving him and when I did not join him he got upset. When I defended my mother he kicked me out of the house. The reward for my good deed.

    So I would say ignore it as best you can. It only gets worse if you try to interfere. I know because I tried this kind of thing before. They do not change and they are not going to. When you go against an butthole you are going to have a shitty time. So close the door and walk away so you wont have to smell it.

    I find racism, sexism, and prejudice, of any kind irritating. I have also been a victim of prejudice myself so I do not judge people by such petty things. Yes the occasional racist joke once is awhile is haha ok. It is annoying when it is constant, vulgar and extreme though.
