I chose keyboards, well, because I am learning how to play at this very moment!

I'm hoping to become proficient sooner than later and hopefully start composing songs!

well, being I don't really have an instrument, I would bang on my legs, use my loon call as a flunnel instrument. or beat box. I'm a decent singer, and I rap a little. so give me a beat boys and free my soul I want to get lost in the rock and roll and drift away. (can't remember what band, not my own thats for sure.)

Didn't you play with the Eagles back in the day? The Black crowes? The yardbirds?

I play guitar; rhythm and lead, acoustic and electric. I spend a lot of my time playing: when I'm not at school or on IIN, chances are I'll be eating, sleeping or playing my guitar. I have played the ukulele too, but I've never owned one. I'd love to play bass, and piano or keyboard. When I was much younger I "played" violin, but I wasn't very good. I was too young to really be inspired by the instrument. I'd love to pick it up again.

Oh, and I'd love even more to play trombone or sax in a ska band! :D I could go on with these forever :P

Vocals, i often write and draw as ways to express myself and i think singing would be another fun way to do this. Sadly i sound like a dying cow in a hail storm ha

The keyboard since at concerts, it's more discreet. Preferably, none.

Oh, I don't know. I saw a keyboard player rocking out and stealing the show at a concert, once. He looked like a twat, though.

Although I've played other things, I mainly play keyboard (which I know is least cool of all the options... how many famous keyboardists can you name who were in bands who also had vocalists, guitarists, and drummers?)

Having said that, bass must be hard. Can you only practice it when other people are there? Bassists must be the most sociable of musicians and keyboard players are probably the least.

When I played drums as a kid and teenager, my dad used to get out his bass, and we'd jam together. Sometimes my brother would come in with his guitar too, or my dad would play guitar, which was fun, but not strictly necessary. The rhythm section don't need your fancy finger twirlin'. WE GOT EACH OTHER.

Your family were cooler than mine. We had a Bb-tuned clarinet, an A-tuned flute, and a C-tuned cornet. The cornet got the sheet music and my sister and I had to transpose two and three semitones respectively in our heads on the fly. Many mistakes were made and neighbours annoyed.

Haha, exciting! Admittedly, I don't know what all of those words mean in that order, but I assume that it's something about having to mentally change the notes to the right key or something. I should find out what that means. Wait, actually, you know what that means. What does that mean?

I never really learned to read music properly, with pitches and what have you. I'm good with rhythm, and I can read music written for a drum set. I can also read music written for a variety of percussion instruments that you can't play tunes on. There's probably a term for that. I had to learn to read music well enough to play the bells and a bit of glockenspiel in middle school, but it didn't work very well. I should try again sometime.

My family cool, but intimidating. My parents and my brother all play guitar. I tried to learn, but it's hard when you're constantly surrounded by people who are better at it than it seems like you could possibly hope to be.

most songs are written at the keyboard, not necessarily by keyboardists but at the keyboard ... keys are the source of wealth in the music industry.. songwriting is where the money is..

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm doing at the moment. I don't have a professional keyboard but I've got a really good all-rounder for composing.

Only annoying thing is that I've had a tune in my head for weeks that I've been working on. I can't stop humming it but I kept wondering if I'd lifted it from somewhere. Yup! Heard it on an advert for soup today.

I would say keyboard since I use to have one. However I never learned how to play and had to give it away. I would have liked to learn piano but it is pointless now. Instruments do not do you anything after a certien age.

Don't give up. The reason I play keyboard/piano is because my dad wanted to learn (when he was in his thirties) and so bought a keyboard. I grew up around them, although I always played other instruments until I was about 16. My dad, who was a reasonable guitarist, did manage to learn pretty good keyboard skills and his mate (who was also taught later in life by his father in law) is *really* good.
