What year of birth starts genz

In your opinion, which year of birth starts GenZ? The earliest members of this generation were born when most were connected to the internet but we’re old enough to remember the transition to when social media became the main source of info and when the majority of the population had iPhones.

In the US members of this generation weren’t old enough to remember life pre 9/11.

I’ve seen all the years listed as starting years, so which do you think is most accurate.

1996 6
1999 0
2002 2
1998 4
2000 5
1997 2
2001 2

    As someone who was born in 96 with twin sisters born in 98 I say Gen Z starts at 98 so I can tell my sisters that I don’t understand their generation.

    I like the definition of being unable to remember 911, it used to be used as an example in school of a poignant memory, “Remember where you were when you heard about 911”, which was useless to me as I was 5 years old at the time and living a very sheltered life in suburban England. I had no concept of terrorism or America and thought sky scrapers were machines grown ups used to clean the sky.

    Apparently my mother had the same problem in the 80s with people asking her to recall learning of JFK’s assassination when she hadn’t even been born at the time.

      My cousin was born in 1997 and she thought the footage of the towers falling playing over and over was an annoying ad for Funniest Home Videos.

        Well I’ve never heard that one before. I think whether people my age remember or not depends heavily on who our parents are and whether they wanted us to know about it or not.

      So, being a boomer means you have to remember the JFK assassination?

        I don’t think so, that would make the minimum boomer age too old.

    Boomer = 1946-1963
    Xoomer = 1964-1966
    Gen X = 1967-1976
    Xillennial = 1977-1979
    Millennial = 1980-1995
    Zillennial = 1996-1999
    Gen Z = 2000-2010

      Never heard of zillenial. I thought we were just cuspers between millenial and gen Z. I sure as hell ain't a millenial but I'm not in k12 anymore which is what gen Z is smack dab in the middle of.

    Year 2000, just because it seems like a nice, easy number. Dont know if it's correct.

      Probably not. I'm thinking sometime after 9/11. Not that I myself remember 9/11 but because I remember having to have a computer class to teach me how to use a computer.

          98 yeah I remember when you had to use a yellow pages to contact other households via your households phone. I also remember the first time I saw a smart phone. At the time (like 12) it perplexed me how the screen on the lotto machines (the electronic gas/bar ones) could by made into smaller screens for phones.

    As a person who is born in 2002, I'd say 1997 sounds more of the beginning of Gen Z
