Currently in college/university. I'm studying for a major in communications and a minor in journalism. This is my second year.
My biggest advice is to build a relevant portfolio website, and to network! No one is going to hire a comms graduate if they dont have a working portfolio or connections within the place you are applying to.
Rather pessimist, don't you think? What makes you qualified to give that advice? Is your company even hiring anyone?
All Im saying is that you need to prove you are qualified for the position you are going after by making a name for yourself. (A name that others will remember and recommend)
Im speaking from the truth. Ive been trying to get into several local news stations, and they all told me that the only reason why they even bothered to interview me is because I knew someone already working there and they said to give me a shot.
Have done a Master's; am about to start another one. For their value in getting me into gainful employment I sometimes wonder if they might as well be Brownie badges. They do help you learn how to think, though.
I only have a high school diploma. I went to college for a single semester before deciding it wasn't for me and dropping out.
Same. I wasn't interested in doing high school shit for 2 years before being able to do what I was actually going for.....fashion design, because I've been sewing for 30 years now, but this was back in '98...still, I just wanted to sew and enter contests or whatever....not do algebra again....blah
Dropped out of college after a few months the first time. Tried again a few years later, but failed the exams after the second year.
University graduate, I have a degree in economics. Looking back now, I could have done everything without all that studying. Or at least chosen something with a future, something like programming.
The only real upside of studying economics was knowing exactly what documents I need and where to hand them in when I started my small business.
Mechanical Engineer with a minor in controls
Now focusing on success and personal development
I know nothing! I've got about five diplomas I could hang on a wall that says I supposed to know something about the law, business, and phycology.
But really I'm a student of life, I'm still learning, and will graduate when I take my last breath.
Thanks, I just find too many people who go to college and get their degree, come out thinking somebody owes them something and that they know everything.
To me, formal education is like teaching a person to dog-paddle or tread water and giving them a degree in swimming. You know enough to stay afloat, there is so much more to learn.
