Whats the best dslr camera to buy?

For all you photographers out there...I have a Fuji FinePix S7000, love this camera but its in desperate need of a clean under the lens and since it's quite old now and I've seen newer cameras have more advance features, I was thinking about saving up for a new one.

Can anyone recommend a DSLR Camera?
I generally like to take landscapes and macros. More pixels the better..i currently use 12 million pixels. Downside to the S7000 is you can't add additional lens of any sort

Also what about editing software?...All I got is Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0!

Many Thanks!

Yes I can recommend a DSLR 11
Newer cameras aren't up to scratch...stick with what you've got 3
I'm clueless over cameras 13
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

I would recommend Nikon cameras. For the most part though, Nikon, Cannon, Pentax, Olympus, Etc. are all good and very similar.

I think your best bet would be to buy a DSLR used that is only a few years old. I got my Nikon D80 only lightly used but at a very good price.

Would highly recommend used as a lot of photographers upgrade and want to get rid of older, but still decent cameras.

    • I was thinking of a second hand..I like camera so much I was gonna get a second hand one but its' difficult you'd to see it to make sure its all working. Plus, I'd feel safer carrying an older camera so I anyone does decide to nick it off me I wouldn't loose so much. Never had any bad experiences before...but its got a point where when I'm not using the camera I always take the memory cards with me

I shoot Canon, so that's where I'm more knowledgable and what I'll recommend. The 650D (or if that's out of your range the 600D) would be a good camera to start out on. The 650D has a touchscreen LCD & shoots a bit faster in continuous mode, but they both have the same 18MP sensor & a swivelling display, so the 600D is still a quite the capable entry-level camera despite being nearly two years old.

The flip-out display on either of them is especially nice for macro photography and is a feature of my own camera that I use much more than I thought I would.

Since you already seem to have a good idea of what you like to shoot, I would recommend forgoing the “kit” and getting an EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 as a general purpose (including landscapes on the wide end) & the EF 50mm f/2.5 for macros.

I realise that all of those together constitutes a pretty seizable investment, but the nice thing about SLRs is that you can always compromise while working up to what you really want. I started out shooting on a T1i with two mediocre kit lenses and slowly changed things out piece by piece as I could afford them.

As for editing software, I used the Photoshop’s built-in raw processor (editing my photos one-by-one) for a long time before a friend recommended I give Lightroom a try. I could not be happier with it. As I tend to shoot a lot, the library feature is especially nice because it allows me to quickly cull through a set of photos (marking the best & worst using key shortcuts). Beyond that, the crop tool is super-intuitive, and the interface is easy to customise to your liking. Unfortunately, even at half the cost of the previous, Lightroom isn't exactly cheap.

At any rate, I hope this hasn't been too much of an information overload and at least a little bit helpful.

It really depends on what you would be using it for. are you looking for one with Digital zoom or Optical zoom.

there are a lot of questions that need to be asked.

    • ha I know
Its all just for fun really, I have a webpage on DeviantART...
      http://browse.deviantart.com/?q=dottylegs
(This the sort of stuff I do)

I'm used to a digital zoom, the S7000 went up to 6x but i would like more
Features I tend to use the most are the...
      -zoom
      -shutter priority
      -continuous shooting
-multiple exposure (layer photos on top of each other) One feature i missed was being able to do panoramic
Also needs to be able to mount on a tripod
