When do you know to get a new computer?

My laptop is having problems and I need to know how long is too long to wait to get a new one. Thanks!

A mac is out of the question because I'm a poor college kid.

Batteries can be replaced, Start up problems can be fixed, but hardware becomes outdated incredibly quick with computers. Get a nice dual core laptop with Windows 7 and 4 gigs ram and you are set.

You'd be better off with Linux, no viruses and it boots faster then windows and a lot less issues to go with.

      • Ah thank you both. It still comes down to what to get and what to look for in a "good" laptop. My laptop is getting pretty bad but affording one is another thing. I just don't know when it's just going to completely die on me.

Just do a fresh install of the operating system and as long as the hardware is ok it will probably be as quick as the 1st day you ever used it.Does not cost you anything either. If your not capable of doing it i'm sure a friend can help :)

I would keep it for as long at it does what I need it to do. The computer that's 1000$ today will be 500$ tomorrow and so on ans so forth.

Can't you just plug it in?

My laptop just completely bricked yesterday. No bootup, hangs before BIOS. Looked at the POST diagnostic, the motherboard is fried.

And I'm STILL not trying to get a new computer. Read a lot of cases where Dell is repairing these mobos well past warranty expiration due to known problems and I'm gonna call them and pray.

When to get a new computer? When you can AFFORD it.

    • LOL I was wondering when someone would get around to that. That's not a problem though.

When it can be considered "off the generation", or the hardware just starts failing.

    AKA when it's outdated :)
