I listen to music from fucking everywhere. Sometimes I wanna chill to some Mongolian throat singing. Or listen to some bhangra.
I am gonna say 1980's-2000's were good the 2010s and the 2020s just kinda suck to me.
I recently made a list of my favourite 1980s songs and was surprised at how many there were because the 1980s sucked although not as badly as the 1990s and beyond.
The 1980s benefited from a convergence of general good times, exhaustion from the seriousness of the 1970s, a reaction against punk, and a lot of interesting new equipment. Also plenty of innovation but no snobbery. Imagine hearing Van Halen, Billy Joel, Prince, and The Cure all on the same radio station. It happened. Probably for the last time.
The 1970s for being so diverse and experimental (Genesis P-orridge anyone?)
As is often noted, there is always good music being created—but the question of what is most popular in any given decade is a very different one. What I mean by that is, there's a lot of bad music today, but also a lot of really good music, that you have to actively seek out.
The decade whose mainstream music I most like is probably 70s, because I love Dire Straits, Allman Brothers, CCR, Clapton, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd, Billy Joel.
But I also love a lot of recent indie music, like Phoebe Bridgers, Torres, Dolorean, Amanda Palmer, Arcade Fire, Belle & Sebastian, Divine Comedy. And other various stuff like Knopfler's solo work, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits (some stuff), Rufus Wainwright.
'70s and '80s are my favorite. There's a bit of good from each decade, but I think the biggest quantity of good music came from the '70s and '80s.
Currently. The creativity never stops. If anything, the newer the time period of the music is, the best it is because it has been created with the existence of the music of the past.
Right now is when music is at it's best. And tomorrow it will be even better
The 80s?! Why did so many people vote 80s? Refer some good music from the 80s. Because I think the 70s was the best around Vietnam/LSD era
I was really into the New Romantic genre (specific examples would be Fiction Factory - Feels Like Heaven, or Tears for Fears - Rule The World) when it first came out, but I don't know if it was popular outside of Britain. That was probably my favourite thing about the 80s.
I do agree that a lot of 80s music was utter shite.
Virtually everything that came out of on 4AD and Creation. It was a waterfall of beautiful pop music and surprising rock sounds.
