It is highly unlikely but it is possible. It might have been on Mythbusters, but I'm not sure. I did see the rats navigating a sewer pipe and going through into the toilet though. They had pipes that were half clear plastic for tv purposes. Google it if you're that worried, and maybe give the rats a courtesy flush or two while you're riding the porcelain pony.
I've had the same fear since i heard that my neighbours had a rat in their toilet! I didnt even know that could happen but now im terrified that one will bite my bum!
Listen girl, you are right to be afraid. I've had mice and even a BAT wash up in my toilet before. They were dead when i got there, but had they been alive it might not have been the worst sensation ;-) their teeth are awfully tiny
Alas, it is not an urban legend. And the hundreds of yards of pipework isn't as bad as dappled makes it out to be (unfortunately). Ever since I listened to this I've been looking for rats in the toilet: http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/406/true-urban-legends
I always thought the "rats coming out of the toilets" stories are just urban legends.
I won't lie to you - rats really do live in sewers. What they don't do is wear little aqualungs and climb up hundreds of yards of pipework to bite you on your good bits.
If they did, all our bathrooms would be full of rats. And they're just not.
Try not to worry about it.
