My cat came to us by way of canvassing. My husband was knocking on doors to talk about political issues with neighbors and one happened to have a kitten that needed a home. At the end of the night he went back to pick up Fraggle. The child that lived there presented him in a box marked "fragle." He couldn't spell fragile. So Fragle it is.
Fuzzy number two came to us because my roommate met someone on the bus who said he had kittens. We went to pick one out and picked the dorkiest one.
I stole my golden retriever from a blind old man crossing the street, hahahahaahahahahahah
My oldest cat was given to me by a friend, while my youngest cat was adopted from my state's Humane Society.
All of my pets just turned up on my doorstep... and I fed them... and they stayed.
A pet store. The average person didn't give a crap about shelter animals back then. Looking the place back up, some people say they were wholesome and legitimate, but others claim they were a puppy mill. All I know is that $500 is an unnecessary amount to pay for a dog.
i got my dog from a breeder, only because i couldnt find a rescue that suited my needs, without some sort of behaviour issue. i searched for a rescue dog for months and i couldnt find the right one, so i gave up and went to a breeder. it wasnt a bad breeder who breeds dogs for money, it was a great breeder, and the dad was her sons dog. i dont regret it and i love my dog to bits. i just donated the amount of adopting a dog to the animal shelter.
I have rescued iguana cockatiel 3 bearded dragons and a gecko from other owners and shelter :)
I've never bought an animal. I'm given, or choose, the most pathetic ones that need my help. I chose my first puppy because it was getting pulled backwards by its tail by a little sibling and looked at me so pathetically I couldn't resist. Best decision I ever made coz I loved him like a baby and I still cry 15 years later after he died.
We have 2 cats right now. Our first one, the boy, my dad got from somebody's house in a neighborhood near ours almost 3 years ago. The people there had a cat that just had kittens, and they were giving the kittens away for free. Our other cat, the girl, we got last summer. Not sure how that went, but my dad says he found her in a car engine that wasn't far from the free kittens sign she escaped from.
A classmate of my brother's had a cat who had kittens, so my brother got one for Christmas. He was only in first or second grade then. Now he's a senior in high school. As mom says, the cat's like the Energizer bunny - it keeps going and going and going...
My dog we got from an animal shelter 10 years ago.
The cats at my mothers house we got from an animal shelter.
Then the cat at my fathers house was a stray in very very bad condition so we took him in.
I have 2 danes. One is from animal shelter and the other is from somebody who had a litter of danes.
When my only cat died from liver failure, I decided to get the next one from an animal shelter.
Now I also have a stray cat who decided to live with us. We have 2 other strays who come outside the door for food, but don't come inside.
My oldest cat, I got from the Humane Society when he was only a tiny kitten. He's 11 years old, super intelligent, talkative, and hardly sheds.
My younger cat, 5 years old , was abandoned in the hallway of an apartment building I was living in at the time. He was about 3 months old, probably a Christmas gift gone wrong. He has some brain damage, which is probably why he was abandoned. It took a lot of time and patience to teach him to be the affectionate and functioning cat that he is today.
My dog is 10 years old and I bought her from a neighbour who had a litter of mini-schnauzers. She's the runt of the litter, so she's small and has some allergies. Other than that she is intelligent and cheerful.
My Aunt died of breast cancer and she had 4 dachshunds. My uncle couldn't take care of them and he sold them all except one and gave the one to us. I now have a dog, named Chibi, curled up next to me all the time. He is so cute! It's depressing how I got him, though...
My sweet and adorable little Oliver who happens to be part "Toy Poodle", part "Bichon Frise" and part "Yorkshire Terrier" was a gift to us from a friend; {who happens to live in the "States"}; she has his sister and she knew we loved her and asked where we could get one, and her brother-in-law who raised them had two, but they were located in the state of "Kentucky" and thought there is no way we could get there from Ontario, but she told him to deliver a male and she presented it to me for my birthday this year. Love him to pieces.
My cat is from a shelter and my plethora of fish are from various pet stores. :P
