Which console generation was better overall? 5th or 6th gen?

On the left side we find 5th gen consoles consisting of no-less than the stationary Playstation, Nintendo 64, Sega Saturn and the handheld Gameboy Color. On the right side we find the 6th gen, consisting of the stationary PS2, Gamecube, Xbox and the handheld Gameboy Advance. All of these consoles are put in a cagefight against each other, 4v4. Which team comes-out as the victor? It's up to you. Now choose your side!

Generation 5: PS1, N64, Saturn, GBC 5
Generation 6: PS2, GC, Xbox, GBA 6
I can't choose. It's a tie 1

Everyone who is getting on a bit will always have a soft spot for the Playstation. Even though the 3d graphics were far from perfect when you were brought up on side scrollers & isometric games, things like Gex 3d, Bushido Blade, & Tenchu were mind blowing. I can remember when Gran Turismo was released, that is all the gamers I knew talked about for literally 3 months. Many memory cards with GT save files were swapped.

Well they are all "stationary" so the "cagefight" would be pretty boring. There wouldn't be a winner or loser. 😜

  • I voted 5th gen because it's the generation that went from 2D to 3D graphics, but the 6th gen consoles would win in your scenario. Technology in general gets better with each new release.

The problem with the 5th generation is that the graphics looked like ass and the controls were usually ass too. Most of the games were also filled with a lot of bugs too. This is probably due to the fact that 3D graphics were new at the time, thus programmers didn't really know how to program it correctly. When generation 6 arrived, the programmers had improved their skills and did it right this time.
